The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 5/20/24-8/9/24

  • Hybrid- Must live in the greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area

  • Salary is $23 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Prepares confidential correspondence, maintains files, and handles tracking systems as appropriate.

  • Prepares and mails correspondence and acknowledgement of birthdays, anniversaries, other life events for staff as needed.

  • Schedules and manages logistics for internal and external meetings. Communicates with and coordinates volunteers, vendors, caterers, service providers, and other external contacts.

  • Gathers, tracks, and maintains donor, volunteer, and sponsor information; monitors and updates information and details (e.g., giving; committee/board involvement; etc.) on key volunteers and donors.

  • Aids with special event management including invitations, planning, logistics, creating attendee lists, tracking RSVPs, etc.

  • Works independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing development projects.

  • Acts as project coordinator for assigned development projects, which may include updating reports, planning, and coordinating meetings, and presentations, and disseminating information.

Qualifications

  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment handling multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

  • Meeting management and event management including set up, outlook invitations, copies, catering, logistics, and meeting minutes.

  • Knowledge of business letter writing format, style, and protocol.

  • Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint

  • Basic knowledge of Canva is a plus.

  • Reliable Wi-Fi Connection.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs./wk., Monday-Friday.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
