The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
Under close supervision and mentorship of experienced public health professionals, students will apply classroom learning to practical problems. Throughout this process, students will develop and strengthen health communication and community engagement skills.
Students will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve health outcomes in diverse communities by supporting nutrition security work, health education strategies, and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

Internship Overview:
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
Internship Duration: 5/20/24 - 8/9/24
Intern must be based in Akron, OH or the immediate surrounding area .
Salary: $23.00 per hour
Internship Outcomes:

Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
Tasks could include things like the following:
Assist Community Impact staff in implementing health equity priority programs, American Heart Association events, Hands-Only CPR training, Heart Healthy Presentations, and clinical programs.
Assist with Community Impact Coalition meetings and hosting events potentially for partner coalitions.
Interns will support sustainable health impact work (Policy, Systems, and Environmental Changes) in the Northeast Ohio market.
Interns will be asked to complete tasks such as but not limited to:
Health presentations -small to large groups as they gain experience.
Material and resource development such as PPTs and brochures
Special event support - preparing supplies, recruiting, and managing volunteers, etc.
Program implementation - recruiting and training program sites, follow-up on participants, etc.
Resource inventory - ordering supplies, organizing, etc.
Customer response - answering phones, following up, responding to requests.
Intern will assist Community Impact staff in other ways identified as needed.
Qualifications
2+ years of educational or equivalent experience in health or public health courses.
Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
