We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Join the Dominion Energy - Energy Supply team as a Wholesale Electricity Markets Analyst (Working Title: Market Operations Specialist), an exciting role that sits at the intersection of data analysis and energy market operations. As part of the Dominion Energy Virginia (DEV) organization, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse Power Generation fleet consisting of renewable energy, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, biomass, oil, and coal assets. Through actionable recommendations rooted in quantitative analysis, this role shapes the daily market and operational activity of Dominion Energy Virginia's electric portfolio while advancing the Company's commitment to a sustainable energy future.

Scope and Responsibilities:

- Conduct comprehensive analysis and provide recommendations to optimize Dominion Energy Virginia's (DEV) generation assets and demand obligations within PJM wholesale electric markets.

- As a member of the front-office team, work closely with the energy trading and power station operations teams to provide decision analysis responsive to weather conditions and commodity events that have an impact on the wholesale electric markets.

- Play a key role in supporting the integration of renewable energy sources into DEV's portfolio through quantitative analysis and electric market research.

- Evaluate past performance and devise strategies for future improvement by integrating DEV and relevant PJM market data.

- Develop correlations to assess and predict market performance, DEV asset performance, and impacts on DEV positions.

- Create and refine performance metrics and quantitative tools to enhance operations in wholesale electric markets.

- Develop analytical models and tools for performance analysis, scenario analysis, and forecasts.

- Maintain and manipulate large quantities of data, ensuring its quality and accuracy.

- Communicate effectively with energy trading groups to identify market opportunities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 3-5 years of related work experience (previous related work experience in the energy industry and/or in an analytical role, demonstrating introductory knowledge of energy market operations)

  • Knowledge typically found in a BS degree in math/statistics, computer science, engineering, business, economics or related field

  • PJM or other wholesale electric market related experience is preferred

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of market research, analytical and modeling methods, and statistics.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down complex or voluminous information into salient, meaningful components.

  • Ability to provide concise, well thought-out, and effective solutions.

  • Ability to identify and communicate market trends to co-workers.

  • Ability to manage, maintain, manipulate, analyze, and synthesize large quantities of data.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of required level of education: Bachelor's degree or preferred Master's degree

Preferred Discipline: Business, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics
