The Solar Project Engineer works cross-functionally with a diverse group of stakeholders, supporting engineering decisions and processes for new large utility scale solar projects. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, comfortable wearing many hats, manage multiple projects concurrently and work effectively in a highly collaborative environment. Looking for individuals who are talented and highly regarded within the industry, detail-oriented and have demonstrated the ability to work back from core customer needs. Consistently manages stakeholder expectations and multiple work scopes efficiently with high level of organization and attention to detail. Solar Project Engineers are comfortable working with developers, engineers, local officials, real estate professionals, contractors and others external team members from initial site review through EPC contract negotiation and construction.

  • Work with technical and non-technical business owners/partners to overcome obstacles and deliver results

  • Lead a collaborative development/pre-construction process for multiple new large utility scale solar projects

  • Evaluate site feasibility including locality requirements, environmental regulatory requirements, and existing conditions.

  • Evaluate preliminary and conceptual project design and site plans

  • Manage resources to ensure prompt information transfer and contract adherence

  • Provide detailed oversight and support of contractors and coordinate technical review of contractor-supplied deliverables

  • Support coordination between project teams, including construction, engineering, real estate, environmental, and project management, etc

  • Contributes to project completion related research, including state and local permitting and regulatory processes

  • Establishes, maintains, and updates project specific files, databases, records, and other documents

  • Provide engineering support for designated solar projects.

  • This position serves as the primary technical interface between Dominion's consulting engineers (OE), EPC contractors, and internal project development team throughout the transmittal process.

  • Ensures project results meet contractual requirements regarding safety, environmental, quality, reliability, schedule and cost.

  • Candidate will be required to review all EPC project correspondence, including daily/weekly/monthly report content and structure, to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.

  • Candidate will develop and manage a project Action Item list up to acceptance of Substantial Completion.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 3+ years of related experience in land use, real estate and/or environmental (erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, wetlands protection) for large capital construction projects

  • Experienced with Adobe Professional, Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Full knowledge of local, state, and federal laws concerning permitting transmission and substation facilities

  • Strong organizational skills are a must, with the ability to prioritize a large task load in a fast-paced environment

  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to solve complex problems with full transparency and adequate documentation

  • Self-motivated, able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners to overcome obstacles and deliver results

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals;

  • Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position;

  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives;

  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills;

  • Effective decision making skills;

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment;

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

  • Preferred: Utility Scale Solar Experience

Education Requirements

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
