This team collaborates with Molecular Genetics, Genomics, and Molecular Oncology laboratories.
The work schedule for this position will be: 12nd shift, Tuesday-Saturday 2:00pm-10:30pm.
Job Responsibilities:
Follows the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing and test analysis
Verifies proper and consistent identification of specimens prior to and during all accessioning and processing steps.
Records initials on all paperwork to indicate work performed by individual
Notifies Technologist, Team Lead or Supervisor of any identification discrepancies and documents action taken
Operates general lab equipment and instruments in order to perform assigned duties
Tests specimens completely, accurately and within established time frames
Understands and follows established testing procedures
Understands that all patient information is confidential and complies with HIPAA regulations
Adheres to the laboratory's safety policies
Wears proper PPE when handling and processing specimens
Discards biohazard waste properly
Notifies technologists, team leads or supervisor immediately of any lab accident or exposure incident
Participates in proficiency testing as required
Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
Verifies with technologists and Team leads, handling and processing procedures prior to testing proficiency samples
Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
Understands and performs daily QC according to the procedure
Notifies tech/Team Lead of any failure or adverse trend in QC
Perform minor instrument troubleshooting and report any irregularities in operation to tech/Team Lead
Recognizes basic problems with reagents
Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, notifies lead or supervisor of shortages
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
No experience required for Technologist Trainee level.
Internal LabCorp experience is highly preferred.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus.
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
