SR. ACCOUNTANT, INVENTORY (STARLINK)
At SpaceX, we are leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 3M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system - thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential global impact. We are looking for a senior accountant to help define and scale inventory tracking as we continue to expand.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the month-end close process for international inventory and cost of goods sold activities related to Starlink hardware, including inter-company transactions, Starlink subsidiaries, and consolidations
Prepare journal entries to reconcile, fix, accrue, and reserve inventory activity across entities
Prepare, reconcile, and analyze monthly inventory valuations and ensure completeness of all inventory movement events
Partner with local service providers as needed to review and coordinate international statutory filings, including bridging statutory financial and tax books to U.S. GAAP
Advocate for business process changes that improve compliance and tracking of inventory
Develop new tools, processes, and automation of monthly close journals and reports with the software engineering and financial system teams
Review and update standard costs and bill of materials with labor, overhead and raw material cost estimates and analyze variances against these standards
Prepare schedules and supporting documentation related to external audit requirements, and interact with external auditors as required
Present inventory close metrics to finance leadership and prepare reports for management
Assist in the development of global accounting policies and procedures to satisfy US and foreign compliance requirements
Support tax team and local service providers to meet international regulatory and tax compliance needs, including VAT/GST and maintaining proper documentation for local country tax refunds/credits
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree
4+ years of accounting experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's or master's degree in in accounting, finance, business, or other business discipline
CPA license (or equivalent)
Big 4 accounting firm experience
Proficient computer skills, including Excel
Experience with US GAAP and international accounting standards (IFRS or other local accounting standards), and multiple currency environments
Experience with MS Dynamics 365 or other ERP accounting systems
Ability to analyze a high volume of transactions and data; SQL experience
Demonstrated strengths in organizational, attention-to-detail, follow-through, reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Strong analytical skills with the ability to seek underlying assumptions through probing, questioning, and listening
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills including ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively
Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities concurrently with shifting time frames, and meet deadlines; self-starter with high degree of initiative, urgency, and follow through
Demonstrated ability to work in a team, facilitate effective team interactions, and to foster a positive work environment; willingness to assist teammates in order to achieve departmental goal
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to work long hours and weekend when needed to meet critical deadlines
This position is based in Hawthorne, CA and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Sr. Accountant, Inventory: $110,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
