Materials Engineer, Propulsion Materials (Human Landing System) at SpaceX

MATERIALS ENGINEER, PROPULSION MATERIALS (HUMAN LANDING SYSTEM)
The Propulsion Materials team provides materials and process support for the design and production of engines at SpaceX. This role will help implement reliability and manufacturability improvements for the Raptor engine as well as review designs for materials usage in the Human Landing System (HLS).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide materials and process support to Raptor design and production engineers.
Support implementation of special processes in design such as metal forming, brazing, and casting including conducting first article inspections.
Document adherence to materials requirements for certification of HLS including creation of materials usage agreements.
Review design concepts for materials selection and related requirements.
Develop design allowables for materials used in Raptor designs.
Conduct and direct hands-on laboratory testing and failure analysis of vehicle hardware.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in materials engineering.
2+ years of professional experience working in a materials engineering role.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's or PhD in materials engineering or materials science.
Expert first principle knowledge of manufacturing with metals.
Industry experience with one of the following: forging, casting, brazing, welding, additive manufacturing, or other production scale metals processes.
Experience reviewing aerospace designs for materials requirements.
Experience performing failure analysis for design hardware.
Familiarity with standard testing methods for materials and development of design allowables.
Understanding of aerospace metals including nickel based alloys, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and titanium alloys.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to travel as needed.
Willingness to work extended hours when need to meet critical deadlines.
