The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

This internship with our national Policy Research team will provide hands-on experience with translating science into policy positions to support our advocacy work at the local, state, and federal levels. The internship provides an opportunity to collaborate with members of the Policy Research team and with different teams across the Advocacy department including our Federal Advocacy, Field Advocacy, and Grassroots teams.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 9/9/24 - 12/6/24

  • Location: Remote

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Reporting to the National Senior Policy Analyst for access to health care and our National Associate Policy Analyst for Research and Operations on the Policy Research team, our intern will support the Policy Research team in translating science into evidence-based policy on a wide variety of topics including access to care, quality health care, systems of care, nutrition, maternal health and more.

  • The intern will complete research tasks as assigned, such as conducting literature reviews and compiling background research on our areas of interest.

  • The intern will support the development of content for resources such as policy briefs, fact sheets, regulatory comments, and other materials that supports, positions, and provides foundational information for the American Heart Association's advocacy efforts.

  • The intern will participate in meetings, workshops, and webinars with external partners, government agencies, coalitions and working groups related to the American Heart Association's advocacy efforts.

Qualifications

  • College seniors, and graduate students pursuing a degree in public policy, public health, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience in public policy and/or an interest in advocacy and healthcare is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort working with professionals, academics, and learners across diverse disciplines and geographies.

  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for developing projects from inception through completion.

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between 8:30am-5pm.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
