Job Summary

This intern position will provide direct support to the Engineering Analytics & Modeling (EA&M) group within Power Delivery - Electric Transmission. This recently formed group within Electric Transmission supports a broad spectrum of transformational and innovative projects with a focus on solving problems through grid telemetry data analytics and custom developed software tools. Products and services provided by the EA&M team serve applications across the entire Electric Transmission organization.

The intern will work as part the EA&M group participating in the development of an array of analytical tools utilizing high-resolution grid telemetry such as synchrophasor data. Support activities include evaluation of various methodologies from the literature, prototyping high-potential methodologies using Dominion's synchrophasor data and data analytics platform, communicating the significance of the methodology and the results to Dominion leadership, and making recommendations for future analytic work.

This position will provide real-life experience in the application of multi-domain skills including engineering principles, power systems fundamentals, signal processing, software development and architecture, as well as written and verbal communication of deep technical concepts through business cases. The intern will work alongside numerous experienced engineers, researchers, and developers throughout the course of the internship. The core assignments will focus on development of an array of synchrophasor analytic use cases. The focus areas will be established at the discretion of the direct supervisor and technical mentor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

- Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and be working on a Master's/preferably a Ph.D. degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university

o Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems is strongly preferred

- Candidates preferred to have a 3.5 or higher minimum cumulative GPA.

- Thorough understanding of power system steady state and dynamic stability (PV curve, transient stability, voltage collapse, eigen analysis, etc)

- Experience with using measurement data for analysis and modeling of electric power systems is strongly preferred (inertia estimation, mode estimation, model validation, state estimation, etc)

o Knowledge and experience in operational modal analysis and/or application of signal processing techniques to power system analysis (fourier transform, SVD, time-frequency analysis, etc)

- Strong programming skills - frequently uses code to solve problems and perform analysis;

o High degree of proficiency developing tools and performing analysis using Python and the common Python scientific computing libraries;

- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to large-scale, practical problems

- Ability to work autonomously and resourcefully when given abstract tasks and assignments.

- Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

- Analytical and abstract thinking skills;

- Ability to follow written and verbal procedures;

- Planning, organizing, and project skills;

- Good professional ethics.

- Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and be working on a Master's or preferably a Ph.D. degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university

- Must have an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2024 or later
