Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.

Job Summary

This position has dual responsibility at a nuclear station for monitoring the security console and providing armed support. Support nuclear stations by controlling access, monitoring and testing security and communications systems, dispatching armed response personnel to investigate alarms and security events etc. Responsible for monitoring nuclear alarm station operations and security equipment. May be responsible for issuing badges and key cards to station employees and contractors. Ensures NRC requirements are enforced. As a fully trained and experienced nuclear security and alarm specialist, applies working knowledge of nuclear security defensive strategy, security policies and procedures. Primarily responsible for preventing and protecting against radiological sabotage, etc. Interviews, screens and processes employees, contractors, and vendors prior to granting access to the OCA and company facilities. Operates, monitors, and programs electronic security and communications systems. Responds to, assesses, and investigates alarms, special conditions, emergency situations and security contingencies; provides compensatory measures for failed or degraded security safeguards. Searches vehicles, personnel and possessions prior to entry to station. Serves as a member of the armed response force by implementing assigned portions of the protective strategy, up to and including use of deadly force, and/or performs all duties of a security alarm station officer. Responsible for dispatching and deploying armed response force for assessment and investigation of alarms, emergency situations, security contingencies, and special conditions. Responsible for issuing and controlling security keys and locks. Coordinates communication with local fire, rescue and law enforcement agencies. Controls access to and patrols protected/vital areas. Assists, acclimates and processes contractors and vendors to the site for deliveries and services. Assists local Game Control Officers in controlling access to the adjacent wild life management area, if applicable. Verifies background eligibility and processes contractors and visitors entering the station. On occasion, may be required to provide oversight to non-company security personnel at Nuclear facilities. Tests and operates all security related equipment, including communications systems, detectors, x-ray screening devices, and alarm systems, in vital as well as non-vital areas. Prepares required security reports using the security computer system. Maintains security documentation, including documentation for electronic security systems and hardware. Acts as Field Team Leader in the absence or loss of the Field Team Leader. Acts as designated shift leader in supervisor's absence or provides guidance to less experienced staff.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

5+ years of directly related work experience

Demonstrates considerable knowledge and work experience dealing with specific issues associated with providing security at nuclear power plant and critical infrastructure protection; Demonstrates proficiency in the safe handling, firing and maintenance of assigned weaponry; Has successfully completed a training certification course designed to provide the minimum level of skills and knowledge to competently perform all tasks associated with a Nuclear Security Officer as required by the NRC; Demonstrates ability to complete all physical training requirements of the job; Maintains current certification as an Alarm Station Officer; Demonstrates leadership skills and ability to take appropriate actions in response to contingency events, which may impact security; Maintains EMT Certification, when required; Maintains Fire Brigade certification, when required; Good computer skills with demonstrated ability to work with various software applications including Lotus Notes, MS Office and access control systems; Attention to detail with the ability to prepare security reports, as required; Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers; Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions.

Candidates must be able to obtain licensing as a private security person and to be able to carry a firearm by the state of WI Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Associate

Preferred Disciplines: Criminal Justice, Industrial Security, Law Enforcement

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Candidates must be able to obtain licensing as a private security person and to be able to carry a firearm by the state of WI Department of Safety and Professional Services.
