We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Subsystem Manager to join the team with Barrios Technology, Inc., a teammate company.

The Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) Subsystem Manager will:

  • Be a Subsystem Manager for the International Space Station (ISS) ECLS System including the following:

  • ISS Oxygen Generator Assembly (OGA) and Advanced Oxygen Generator Assembly (AOGA)

  • Serve as the primary ISS ECLS System Oxygen Generator Assembly (OGA) and Advanced Oxygen Generator Assembly (AOGA) Subsystem Manager. This involves all aspects of OGA and AOGA hardware and associated ground/development/on-orbit activities/operations. Primarily this involves Boeing and subcontractor CFE hardware but also has aspects that are GFE (JSC or MSFC provided) or IP-related (Energia or ESA)

  • Assume full oversight responsibility (with delegated authority but under the direction of the NASA ECLS System Manager) for all engineering and operations decisions for the OGA and AOGA-related topics

  • Work closely with ISS Program Vehicle Office Integrators, Boeing contractor subsystem teams, various project/hardware provider teams, and other organizations to manage tasks and technical risks

  • Support real-time system operations, including periodic support in the ISS Mission Evaluation Room (MER) for specific on-orbit activities

  • Support problem/failure resolution activities and resolution through various forums such as the ECLS SPRT and appropriate ISS Program boards

  • Develop in-depth OGA and AOGA technical knowledge to apply to real-time, integrated discussions for evaluating forward plans, issue resolution, desired hardware posture, operational recommendations, and risk trades, including application of best practices and engineering judgment for cases with limited or incomplete data.

  • Handle communications between various hardware providers and sustaining organizations

  • Take point in exchanging information with a wide range of stakeholders including the ISS Program, JSC Engineering, Vehicle Office, Collins Aerospace, Boeing, and Marshall Space Flight Center.

  • Some travel required

  • Serve as the ECLS SM team focal for Change Request (CR) coordination and review across all ECLS subsystems. CR scope will include both Program and Flight Rule CRs

  • Perform other duties as required. Additional duties within the ISS ECLS team are expected and will be discussed on a case-by-case basis

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering and normally possess 5 - 10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required

  • A working knowledge of mechanical, fluid, and pressure-based systems

  • A strong working knowledge of the ISS Program (or similar NASA program), including use of boards/technical forums and support of space flight hardware activities

  • Strong and clear communication skills, both technical and interpersonal, involving complex topics and real-time discussion/decision-making

Requisition Preferences:

  • Have an understanding/exposure to ISS ECLS functions and related hardware (Highly Desired)

  • A working knowledge of, and experience with, Space Vehicle flight operations and documentation

  • Knowledge of hardware certification and flight processes

  • Be familiar with Oxygen and Hydrogen, their associated risks and how those gases interact within a system

  • Prior knowledge and experience with OGA/AOGA

  • Be familiar with system/subsystem management roles

  • Be able to coordinate across multiple organizations

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

Attendance

Regular attendance following an established work schedule is critical. The ability to work outside the normal schedule and adjust the schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
