SENIOR SENSOR FABRICATION ENGINEER (STARSHIP)

The Sensor Development team designs, builds, and tests innovative sensing solutions that are critical to making life on Mars possible. The Senior Sensor Engineer will work on this highly interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to design and fabricate physical sensors, such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, strain gauges, pressure sensors, etc. used in programs across SpaceX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop special processes for sensor manufacturing

  • Complete process qualifications in order to develop capable manufacturing processes for sensors

  • Develop custom manufacturing and/or test equipment when needed

  • Run statistical process control analysis and help develop in-line process checks to ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet requirements

  • Develop hands-on technical knowledge of all processes employed in sensor manufacturing to enable rapid process development for new sensor designs and ensure established processes remain stable

  • Develop innovative automated process monitors, compile statistical process control reports and communicate findings and recommendations to design, engineering and manufacturing teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or physics

  • 5+ years of experience in process development in an industrial or consumer electronics environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or related field

  • Knowledge of special processes such as wire bonding, application of adhesives, wet and dry etching, semiconductor fabrication, metal deposition, etc

  • Root cause experience with knowledge of destructive and non-destructive analysis

  • Experience with installation qualification, operational qualification, and process qualification

  • Data analysis experience in Python, MATLAB or Minitab

  • Knowledge of various physical sensors and how they operate (such as pressure, acceleration, temperature, gyroscopes, etc.)

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends as needed to meet critical milestones
