This is an ideal position for the EMS professional looking to be that educator. Our terms are five weeks in length, and the class sizes are small which provides the perfect opportunity for the faculty to share their knowledge in the campus classroom or with our many clinical partners.
The -Laboratory Instructor- (also known as -Instructional Faculty-) member is a National Registry Certified Paramedic who has been selected by the Paramedic Program Director to provide instruction to students in the laboratory environment who are enrolled in an EMS education program which leads to the Initial Certification of students, or awards Category 1 continuing education units.
Responsibilities
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Laboratory Instructor is responsible for providing lab content education to ECPI University students in the EMS program. Instructional Faculty must be familiar with program goals, able to demonstrate the ability to follow an organized plan of instruction and have appropriate credentials for the learning areas they teach in the laboratory setting. There must be instructional faculty designated to provide frequent assessments of the students' progress in achieving program requirements. Performs duties assigned under the direction and delegation of the Paramedic Program Director as they pertain to the laboratory environment.
Educational Delivery Content:
Provides instruction including laboratory and simulation sessions.
Provides for the care of supplies and equipment.
Ensures equipment is maintained in optimal condition for instruction.
Evaluates student competence based on program objectives.
Maintains accurate roster records.
Attends regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
Assesses student progress in achieving theory (cognitive content) performance (psychomotor competencies) and professional behavior (affective) requirements of the program.
Demonstrates evidence-based teaching.
Maintains current standards of practice in all classes taught.
Responsible to follow the educational objectives and schedule that meets the requirements set forth by the Program Director.
Maintains a student to instructor ratio of no more than 6 students per instructor for skills training and testing.
Student:
Approaches teaching and learning from a coaching-mentoring paradigm where non-punitive feedback is encouraged.
Complies with all academic and regulatory policies including FERPA confidentiality of personal information provided by the students.
Complies with all National Registry and State Office of EMS guidelines.
Program:
Maintains and upholds the policies and procedures of the program.
Represents the University in a positive manner to internal and external constituents.
Other duties as assigned.
Practice:
Maintains professional qualifications through participation in continuing education programs and academic courses.
Contributes toward professional growth by attending workshops, conferences, faculty meetings, academic courses and professional memberships
Participates in special projects as required.
Qualifications
Job Skills Requisites
The faculty must be knowledgeable in course content and effective in teaching their assigned subjects, and capable through academic preparation, training and experience to teach the courses or topics to which they are assigned.
Minimum of a High School Diploma, or equivalent.
Nationally Registered Paramedic
3-5 years' progressive field experience in the emergency setting
