Job Summary: Overall responsibility for: integration of the enterprise-wide network: evaluates, plans, designs, installs, administers and supports WAN/LAN hardware, configurations, software, services, as well as troubleshooting. Incumbents of this position must be U.S. Citizens. Duties and Responsibilities: - Serves as top-level technical contributor and technical lead with advanced knowledge and experience in the area of wide area and local area networking, network hardware, Cisco Operating systems, wired and wireless networking technologies, and related hardware/software. - Responsible for leading the research and development of new technologies used to optimize and maintain NEXCOM's Data Center, local and wide area networks. Studies vendor products to determine those that best meet organizational needs. Performs cost-analysis of proposed implementations. - Responsible for network design and testing new products to determine the most advantageous means of implementing and integrating the equipment with current WAN and LAN, including routers, router firewalls, switches, dsu/csu and DSL modems, etc. - Responsible for installation, configuration, troubleshooting and modification of network and telecommunications hardware/software according to DISA Network Security Technical Implementation Guides. - Mentors other team and staff members regarding network infrastructure technology. - Performs escalation, testing and support of network equipment, telecommunication circuits and local area servers deployed in the field and at NEXCOM. - Participates in a 24-hour/7day on-call rotation for wide-area network support. - Develops, updates, and maintains documentation and drawings, as they relate to the Data Center, local and wide area network. - Troubleshoot and resolve network and user problems in a timely manner. - Maintain the security and integrity of all network hardware and software. - Provides oral and written reports to all levels of the Code I management chain. - Performs capacity planning, optimization, and analysis for new and currently installed networks. - Ensure/implement the rigorous application of Information Security/Information Assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of Systems, Applications and/or Services (Hardware & Software). - Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years experience in administrative, technical work, which demonstrated the ability and aptitudes, required to perform technical, managerial or analytical work and coordination involving management information systems. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience up to a maximum of a 4 year bachelor's degree in a business/information systems or computer science discipline for 3 years general experience. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 5 years total experience in the following: - Experience in a Cisco Enterprise Class Support Group with duties that included the full spectrum of Cisco Network Infrastructure Software configuration and maintenance. - Experience in installing and optimizing the performance of Cisco network devices through traffic management, QOS, and resource tuning in an enterprise Data Center, 100 remote sites, diverse, geographic, and worldwide network. - Experience in configuring Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) in a low bandwidth, multi-site environment. Experience with Class of Service implementations. - Experience with network security requirements and compliance based on regulations such as Payment Card Industry, Health Insurance Protection Act, Sarbanes Oxley or DISA Security Guidelines.
