Title: (NEX LITTLE CREEK) - SUPERVISORY SALES ASSOC. - RFT Location: United States-Virginia-Virginia Beach Job Number: 220001J9 Job Summary: Supervises associates selling merchandise and providing technical and/or specialized knowledge of plant care, seasonal growing schedules, garden supplies, and outdoor living merchandise. Provides service which anticipates and exceeds expectations. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervises Garden ShopCenter associates engaged in providing sales assistance to customers. Provides work direction and guidance, establishes schedules and determines priorities, approves/disapproves leave and overtime, recommends personnel actions such as: promotions, performance awards, takes disciplinary actions and prepares performance appraisals. Carries out EEO policies and communicates support of these policies to subordinates. Provides advice and assistance to customers and subordinates in the care of houseplants, perennials/annuals, foliage and tropical plants. Is familiar with the season schedules and gardening procedures for their local area and has knowledge of the moisture, temperature, humidity, and ventilation requirements needed to encourage healthy plants and growth. Ensures the proper care, watering and fertilizing etc. of merchandise. Possesses general and/or specialized knowledge of pesticides and herbicides for the control of common houseplant diseases, plant insects, and weeds. Ensures timely stock replenishment of merchandise. Determines available shelf space and amount of merchandise to be displayed. Assures prices are marked on individual items and that displays are safely and neatly arranged. Supervises and participates in periodic inventories ensuring inventory maintenance in accordance with prescribed levels. Ensures the proper maintenance of stock control records. As required develops reports and requisitions, authorized merchandise based on records of maintained inventories, and other factors affecting the maintenance of stock levels. Responsible for the security of cash, fixed assets and merchandise inventory including the collection, counting, verification, and deposit of cash receipts. Completes required forms and logs. Assures garden shop is kept clean and orderly. Adheres to applicable fire safety and HAZMAT regulations which may include required safety attire. Carries out policy of courtesy and service. Exercises tact, good manners, and courtesy when serving and assisting customers and fellow associates. Responds to inquiries and provides assistance in a prompt and friendly manner. Work is performed outside or in a greenhouse and is exposed to all types of weather. Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs., such as bags of fertilizer, soil etc. Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who provides instructions concerning procedures, priorities, and assistance in carrying out assignments. Work is reviewed in terms of efficiency of operations and adherence to instructions. In absence of the Department Manager assumes responsibility for maintaining continuity of Garden ShopCenter operations. Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE 1 year responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE 1 year progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE Study completed in a college, university, or junior college above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one half academic year of study for 6 months of experience. At any level specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience. Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess or have potential to develop the qualities of successful supervision.
