The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Our Greater Washington Region Communications team is seeking an intern for the spring to support our work in public outreach, marketing, media communications, and community relations.

Internship Overview:
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
Internship Duration: 1/16/24 - 5/3/24
Hybrid position based in Arlington, VA servicing the Greater Washington Region including DC, Northern VA, Prince George's County, MD and Montgomery County, MD
Salary: $23.00 per hour

Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.
Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
Tasks could include things like the following:
Create promotional materials for local events and community outreach.
Write and edit compelling survivor stories.
Coordinate resources for local events.
Attend events and assist the communications director with communications and marketing duties.
Attend interviews at local media outlets.
Local media outlet research as well as craft and pitch stories.
Support social media content creation and management.
Assist the communications director in creating content for social media including copy, graphics, and video.
Qualifications
Two years of education is preferred with a focus on marketing, communications, public relations, or related field.
Candidates must submit a professional writing sample to include a blog, press release, news article, or other significant work sample.
Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Basic knowledge of Canva and WordPress.
Basic knowledge of social media content creation for X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook.
Experience with a social media management platform including Sprinklr, Hootsuite, etc.
Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection
Bilingual or multilingual in either Spanish, Arabic, or Mandarin preferred but not mandatory.
Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
