The Nuclear Core Design group (NCD) is responsible for a broad range of nuclear fuel related activities, including design and optimization of core loadings, performing physics parameter analyses for input to core reload safety analyses, performing economic evaluation of fuel management alternatives, participation in low power physics testing and other plant support activities, and development of improved core design methods. The NCD group is also responsible for performing out-of-core analyses, such as spent fuel pool criticality and heat load evaluations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize core models using neutronic codes, such as the CASMO/SIMULATE code suite.

  • Plan and implement efficient fuel management strategies.

  • Perform calculations to provide core physics input to reload safety analyses and fuel performance analyses.

  • Provide technical support for on-site Reactor Engineering staff including development of startup and core follow inputs and reactivity management tools.

  • Perform periodic calculations supporting safe operation of the spent fuel pools, including criticality analysis and heat load analysis.

  • Interface with various groups within the Nuclear Engineering and Fuel Department.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

  • This position will require occasional overtime.

  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain nuclear plant access, including associated background checks and random drug testing.
