We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility. Relocation may be offered.

Job Summary

This role manages the ET (Electric Transmission) Power System Facility Rating engineering team to provide system analysis of the electric transmission network grid through modeling, simulations, and other engineering techniques. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining documentation for meeting PJM, FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) Order 1000, NERC (North American Reliability Corporation) Reliability Standards, and Electric Transmission Planning Criteria and routines. A primary focus includes core system facility rating engineering requirements, data mining for transmission lines and substation conductor and equipment ratings, and data analytics on historical data to validate solution proposals for rating updates and for projects in the present or future Regional Transmission Expansion Plan.

As the Supervisor of the ET Facility Ratings Engineering Team, you would be expected to lead ET Planning through the following:

  • Analysis to validate power system facility ratings for all Electric Transmission conductors and power equipment energized and planned for energization in the Electric Transmission projects approved in PJM's Regional Transmission Expansion Planning Process (RTEPP) load connection projects.

  • Analysis to validate power system facility ratings for all Electric Transmission conductors and power equipment planned for energization in the Electric Transmission projects approved in support of generation interconnection projects.

  • Maintenance and process improvements for the facility ratings practices and databases needed to properly compile and coordinate workflows and manage ratings for all Electric Transmission conductors and power equipment in substations and in transmission line right-of-way.

  • This team has the lead in meeting our transmission ownership's methodology NERC Facility Design and Maintenance (example: Mandatory Standard FAC-008, Facility Ratings).

  • Developing and maintaining power system facility rating standards for use during detail design and engineering evolutions.

  • Leading standardization and planning execution towards the development of facility rating standards for conductors and equipment in power system modeling routines.

  • Collaborate with many internal Dominion ET departments (the SOC (System Operations Center), System Protection engineering, Substation Engineering, Transmission Lines Engineering, Engineering Standards, etc.), to ensure ET Planning Criteria, Power System Conductor and Equipment Rating Standards.

  • Facilitate collaborations and partnerships with universities, companies, engineering associations and government agencies.

  • Representing the Transmission Owner with PJM, SERC, and other external groups needing input and understanding of the Electric Transmission conductor and equipment ratings methodologies.

  • Leading/coordinating the special innovation modernization projects and initiatives needed to enhance ET Planning routines, standards, and processes to include tools and interfaces with partner groups.

  • Developing innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions to ET Planning routines for capturing facility ratings.

  • Providing coaching, feedback, mentoring and career development to an engineering team, some with advanced degrees.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Significant related experience, typically 7+ years (Transmission or Substation Engineering, Operations, Construction, or related power delivery field).

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and general knowledge of managerial and supervisory concepts.

  • Thorough knowledge of transmission and substation equipment, design concepts and industry standards.

  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, effective public speaking and presentation, project management, customer service, time management and organization.

  • Abilities: Abstract thinking, technical problem solving, processing information quickly Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above,.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Master , Doctorate

Preferred Discipline(s): Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Related leadership experience is a plus.
