The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Our Indianapolis team is seeking an intern for the summer to support our work in public outreach, marketing, media communications, development, and community impact. This position will support communications (50%), development (25%), and community impact (25.

Internship Overview:
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
Internship Duration: 1/16/24 - 5/3/24
Hybrid-Intern must be based in the Indianapolis area
Salary: $23.00 per hour
Internship Outcomes:

Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.
Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
Tasks could include things like the following:
Writing media releases, media alerts, newsletters, and various forms of communication.
Developing media kit concepts.
Creating promotional material for local events and community outreach.
Working on various American Heart Association social media platforms.
Collaborate in the creation of shareable social media content appropriate for specific networks to both spread our brand and our content.
Applying graphic design elements.
Working with local media outlets.
Assisting with special event planning, organization and communication coordination.
Assisting administrative staff with tasks such as printing, collating, thank you cards, etc.
Working with Community Impact staff to develop and execute programs with community organizations that address health inequities.
Qualifications
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
Creative thinker.
Proficient in multiple social media platforms with a command of each network and best practices.
Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
Must be able to work independently and in a team setting.
Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Basic knowledge of Canva and social media content creation.
Reliable transportation required.
Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
