Title: DEPARTMENT MANAGER Location: United States-Maryland-Patuxent River Job Number: 240000U6 Description-External - Supervises front end registers operations, including scheduling, staffing, and training and performance management. Ensures front end associates are aware of store promotions, policies, procedures, and programs. Ensures all front-end equipment - cash registers, front end cap management program is properly maintained - Supervises and coordinates store receiving, stocking, customer service, accounting, and front end operations where applicable. Audits policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness of operations. Supervises associates engaged in a variety of functions, i.e. accounting, janitorial, customer service, etc. engaged in store operational support functions as applicable. - Supervises main store customer service programs to include special orders. Follows up with customers, vendors, procurement, and distribution personnel to ensure special order merchandise are processed and received promptly and efficiently. Manages layaways and layaway payments where applicable. Ensures customer balances due are accurate and current. - Completes layaway inventories and reconciliations. - Promotes customer satisfaction. Reviews all comments, questions, complaints and compliments received from customers and coordinates with Employee Development Manager action to be taken. - Resolves customer complaint and provides information to customers on all types of NEX retail policies and programs in coordination with the Employee Development Manager. Coordinates all in-store aspects of the MILITARY STAR CARD program. - Coordinates store staffing requirements and training programs. Develops and maintains work schedules, interviews and hires personnel, and monitors and controls payroll expenses. Ensures an effective, on going associate training program is in place to include new associate orientation, customer service, cash handling, merchandising programs, safety, loss prevention, etc. - Supervises sales audit and cashier cage operation, cash collection, and control where applicable. Oversees the collection of accounting data, documents, and reports from operational areas and submission to appropriate office for processing where applicable. - Prepares statistical reports and analysis on controllable expenses, i.e. payroll, supplies, janitorial, etc. Takes action to ensure expenses are managed to budget and sales trends. - Coordinates and manages main store maintenance and housekeeping requirements where applicable. - Performs work under the supervision of a more senior operating manager. Assignments can range from routine store management and coordination functions to complex projects designed to provide the development and experience necessary to progress to positions of greater responsibility and independence. Work is reviewed regularly for adherence to established operating policies and programs, and results achieved through the exercise of creativity, sound judgment, and seasoned application of effective store management practices. Receives guidance and coaching as necessary to ensure operational and developmental objectives are maximized. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Qualifications-External A total of 4 years consisting of the following: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years experience in administrative, professional, investigative or other responsible work which enabled the applicant to gain a general knowledge of business practices and administrative processes; skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships; and the ability to exercise mature judgment. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: 1 year of academic study, above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4 year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year of responsible experience in administrative, supervisory, professional or technical work that demonstrated the knowledge of retail business principles, practices, methods and techniques. Knowledge of retail and or services merchandising principles, procedures and combination of related activities in the areas of accounting, personnel, procurement, and distribution management and store operations.
