Job Description

This department performs immunophenotyping by Flow cytometry testing for Leukemia and Lymphoma diagnosis.

The work schedule for this position will be: 2nd shift, Sunday-Thursday 12:00pm-8:30pm.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Follows the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

  • Participates in proficiency testing as required.

  • Adheres to laboratory's quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

  • Recognizes basic problems with reagents and immediately notifies Team Leader, Supervisor, Lab Manager or Lab Director.

  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  • Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, notifies Team Lead or Supervisor of shortage. Helps with monthly inventory count if needed.

  • Serves as an example and resource to other testing laboratory personnel.

  • Adheres to the laboratory's safety policies.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements

  • A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required OR an MLS degree.

  • Previous Flow Cytometry experience is highly preferred.

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
