Description
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations - from foundational services such as Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS's services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Knowledge Engineering team owns the AWS Knowledge Map, a comprehensive knowledge graph that captures the relationships and dependencies across AWS services, teams, code repositories, deployment pipelines, and infrastructure components. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing scalable software products, implementing robust data processing and transformation algorithms, contributing to the development and enhancement of the knowledge graph model, collaborating with cross-functional teams, optimizing performance and scalability, designing and implementation of data access layers, APIs, and user interfaces, contributing to deployment automation, influencing technology direction, and solving complex engineering problems that impact revenue, resources, and customers worldwide.
Your work will have a direct impact on how tens of thousands of AWS Builders develop and deploy their services for Region expansion. Key job responsibilities
You solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
You work with your team to invent, design and build software that is stable and performant.
You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them (and when it is not). Your solutions are pragmatic.
You consider the legacy of the code you produce and write code that an SDE unfamiliar with the system can understand.
You limit the use of short-term workarounds. You do things with the proper level of complexity the first time (or at least minimize incidental complexity).
You create flexible software without over-engineering. You make appropriate trade-offs, re-use where possible, and are judicious about introducing dependencies.
You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU, etc.)
You work on project ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
