Let's talk salary. The salary range for this position based on what we are asking you to do in the role starts at $150,000 and goes up to $210,000, based on qualifications. Still not convinced? Allow us to elaborate. For this opportunity, we are seeking a highly motived, team-oriented Principal Software Engineer to join our team in Arlington, VA or Ft. Meade, MD. If you are based out of Arlington, you will need visit our customers at Ft. Meade on occasion (about one to two times per week). As Principal Software Engineer, you will be part of a cross-functional team that is responsible for the full software development life cycle of next-generation DoD cloud native applications. Our ideal candidate will be familiar in both front-end and back-end coding and produce intuitive and functional web interfaces that are user accessible, cross-browser, and cross-platform compatible.
In this role, you will lead design, development, and maintain cloud-native applications and will learn to define application resources and use core primitives to build, monitor, and troubleshoot scalable applications & tools using Kubernetes. Another aspect of this position will be to mentor and lead our team of junior software engineers! This role is customer facing; you will also be asked to develop presentations to present at internal and customer design reviews.
To be successful in this role, interested candidates should have at least eight (8) years of overall software development experience, with a recent focus on cloud computing and working within DevSecOps on DoD cloud environments. We require a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field). Extensive experience with a high-level programming language such as Java and/or Python is preferable.
Do you have extensive experience setting up, deploying, and managing Kubernetes cluster(s)? Or perhaps you have experience building data pipelines using Kafka? Great! Apply. Do you have experience working with large databases? Awesome! Apply. Do you have experience architecting and building web applications from the ground-up? Check! Apply. Do you have knowledge of AWS (EC2, Lambda, S3, etc.)? Even better! Apply. Any experience with Podman/Docker? Wow! Apply. Bonus Material. You are an overachiever if you have any of the following experience: OpenShift, Kubernetes framework, DevOps experience or knowledge of best DevOps practices, specifically regarding deploying containerized applications into Kubernetes development environments, performing container security hardening (Twistlock, etc.), experience with classified DoD cloud environments (C2S, CloudOne, etc.), experience with DoD cybersecurity requirements relating to cloud-enabled software development, understanding of multiple security contexts with AWS, working with Linux and/or Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) in a software development context, modern frontend web development frameworks (preferably React), Apache Kafka, working in an agile development environment, Spring/Spring Boot Java web application frameworks, Flask/Django Python web application frameworks, and Keycloak/OAUTH2.
Next, as we are working for the DOD, we are beholden to some requirements. The ideal candidate would already possess an active DOD Secret Clearance, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI without issue, and a DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, SSCP).
