Silicon Photonics Project Scientist
Cupertino,California,United States
Hardware
Apple's Exploratory Design Group (XDG) has an opening for an experienced silicon photonics expert with excellent organizational skills and a broad knowledge of computing, to help develop optical components and subsystems for emerging computer architectures. Working with a diverse cross-functional team, you will use your deep knowledge of silicon photonics structures, physics and fabrication to help design, model and prototype subsystems that accelerate key aspects of future generations of computing systems. You will in addition use your organizational skills to keep projects focused and on track, keep the whole team effective, and keep management updated.
Description
With input from domain experts and support from an exceptional team, you will help conceive, analyze, model, optimize and evolve new and emerging concepts and devices for future Apple systems. You will use your unusually broad knowledge of photonics, physics and engineering, plus your skill at device modeling, to build deep, quantitative understanding of how optical devices interact with computational systems, and how to optimize those interactions. You will participate in the design, prototyping and characterization of resulting devices and systems. On the organizational side, you will spend approximately 30% of your time driving cross-functional alignment, facilitating decision making, ensuring tight inter-team coordination and communication, and effectively and consistently communicating overall program status. In general, you will almost certainly need to learn new things.
