The Senior Consultant, Selection (SCS) is responsible for managing major Talent Selection programs and initiatives, including but not limited to: the design, development and deployment of validated and legally compliant selection tools and processes. The SCS will function as a project manager and see projects/programs from inception through analysis, measurement and evaluation. This role requires working knowledge of selection and assessment practices, including related scientific methodology, statistics and legal standards (e.g., Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures). The individual must demonstrate advanced communication and leadership skills to consult with functional and senior leaders, communicate new processes and lead change management efforts related to these processes. In addition, this individual will manage other major Talent Acquisition initiatives such as implementing processes that ensure the successful staffing of new stores, evaluation of high performers, etc. The SCS will coordinate the work of Selection Consultants and/or Coordinators, as well as a variety of vendor partners. In partnership with manager, the SCS will be expected to drive the execution of world-class talent selection and assessment strategies. The SCS will also work closely with HR business partners and Legal counsel to ensure consistency and continuity across efforts.
What you will do - Essential Responsibilities
Design, develop and deploy valid, defensible, and sustainable assessment tools and processes that align with CarMax strategies and support specific customer needs
In partnership with functional leaders, drive large-scale change initiatives focusing on implementation of improved selection practices, which includes the effective management of vendors, systems, groups and/or business areas
Create tools, presentations and one-page abstracts backed up by strong analysis to communicate strategy, illustrate progress and identify gaps
Consult with customers at all levels across the organization; collaborate with functional leaders and HR business partners to build and implement processes for selecting associates
Diagnose business/function needs and provide customers with recommendations backed by clear rationale and supported by data analysis
Make decisions in alignment with the CarMax culture, balancing the recommendation based on the short- and long-term goals of the customer and the organization.
Contract with internal and external resources to produce high-quality selection offerings that are seamlessly executed within the business areas
In partnership with consultants, review detailed and comprehensive technical reports, obtain certifications in the use of state-of-the-art personality instruments and stay up to date on current scientific standards and contemporary business solutions
Facilitate meetings and training sessions with associates at all levels of the organization
Purpose of the role
The Senior Consultant partners throughout the organization to identify needs, successfully validate and implement tools, and communicate the value of Talent Selection programs. The Senior Consultant directly contributes to the success of new people initiatives and strategies for CarMax through determining how best to identify the talent needed for new or modified job roles. While acting as a change agent, the Senior Consultant also manages the day-to-day use of existing assessments, processes, and integrations, communicating with hiring managers, recruiters, and vendors to provide guidance and troubleshoot issues. The ability to move seamlessly from emergent customer issues to project work is a critical skill for this role.

Education and/or Experience :
Bachelor's degree required; prefer Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Business, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Development
5+ years of experience within Human Resources, Talent Management or related department
Preferred experience in job analysis, design and validation of effective and legally defensible assessment tools (e.g., interviews, case studies, assessment tests, etc.)
Demonstrated mastery in project management, particularly in leading large-scale initiatives; high level of conscientiousness and attention to details

Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, collaboration and influence
