Additive Manufacturing Engineer (Raptor) at SpaceX
Hawthorne, CA, United States
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (RAPTOR)
Develop, implement, and productionize metal additively manufactured products. Identify and implement process and design improvements necessary to advance quality, cost, and production speed. Collaborate cross functionally with responsible engineers, designers, and other production teams to achieve goals for product. Delegate tasks where needed, but ultimately responsible for the success of additive products through their entire lifecycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support design for additive consultation and utilize 3D modeling to optimize product design
Incorporate geometric compensation, support structure, machine stock, GD&T, and powder removal required to produce products effectively at scale
Utilize both established and development processes to generate additive build files. Optimize print process techniques in collaboration with process engineers to reduce build time while ensuring product quality and consistency
Establish and iterate on engineering planning and controls in order to produce additive consistent and repeatable product from print start through customer delivery
Evaluate new print platforms, and be the point of contact with printer OEMs to drive improvements and set work priority
Establish and perform first article evaluations to validate development updates in collaboration with materials engineering
Own and resolve product quality non-conformances through issue ticket systems. Utilize systematic root-cause analysis techniques to troubleshoot and drive robust solutions to reoccurring problems
Own additive process qualification efforts specific to product as they mature to flight status
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline
2+ years of engineering design or manufacturing industry experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
5+ years of experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment
Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environment within the aerospace, marine or automotive industries
Siemens NX 3D modeling and assembly experience
