Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Wikipedian and Outreach Coordinator

Location: Remote

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review all Ag Law projects, including holding meetings, tracking progress, and provide regular updates to the Ag Law lead.

  • Provide Wikipedian-in-Residence services for NAL focused on Ag Law partner and NAL content and projects - including a focus on equity issues in agriculture.

  • Train and support the Ag Law partners and others in creating and enhancing Wikipedia articles on agriculture, food safety, and agricultural law.

  • Review and evaluate current Ag Law website and lead NAL website modernization and update ag and food law webpages on a regular basis and create new subject specific topic pages related to ag law and equity topics.

  • Support the broad goals of the Ag Law partnership through basic reference work and creation of pathfinders or user guides.

  • Lead regular meetings to monitor and evaluate all ag law projects and events.

  • Monitor and report on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met

  • Assist in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and tasks among team members in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization

  • Track daily check-in reports

  • Report weekly to the Ag Law lead with project updates

  • Attend agricultural law and library related virtual and in-person conferences and workshops, as needed.

    Required Skills and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree (or higher) related to agriculture, food or an ag-related discipline

  1. MLS or MLIS or be currently enrolled in an ALA accredited program

  2. Knowledge of the intersections of equity and US agriculture and food related issues is required.

  3. Must have at least two years of experience working in a library or archive and

understand library bibliographic records and MARC records.

  1. Professional experience conducting in-person and online presentations, workshops, and edit-a-thons and proficiency with gathering, organizing, analyzing, and writing agricultural related content.

  2. Candidate must have professional Wikipedian-in-Residence experience and knowledge of

Wikipedia standards and policies.

  1. An existing association with a Wikimedia DC chapter is required to partner with the chapter for all Wikipedia events.
