Position summary: Position is for the initial team leader of a yet to be created new structural engineering team within the overall engineering firm. Position will require the development of future staff as workload grows. Ability to work with multidiscipline design teams and serve as structural project manager from initial proposal effort to design and construction administration. Responsible of development of structural design team to meet the growing need of the group including engineering and the production of construction documents. Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments.
Essential functions and responsibilities
Work within a multidiscipline design team and perform the structural engineering efforts to support the team.
Supervision and support of structural engineering staff
Assist in Business development and proposal efforts for both in house and out of house clients.
Perform structural framing layout, design computations and supporting structural detailing for the development of deliverables such as reports and construction documents.
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
Develop construction documents using Revit software
Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
Develop construction cost estimates
Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
Coordinate with internal and external team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Nonessential functions and responsibilities
Required Skills
Proficient in discipline specific design codes, references and software for structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber.
Proficient in Revit
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
Minimum of 15 years of experience
Professional Engineering License
Preferred Experience
Related experience in design and production of construction documents for structural systems
Experience working with local clients at the county and state level as well as private clients
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
