This Senior Manager, Health Benefits position serves on the Total Rewards leadership team and reports to the Director of Benefits. In addition to serving as a People Leader for a small team of Associates, this position leads Health Plan strategy, rate and budget setting, compliance, operations, vendor management, analytics and communications.

Benefits Administration
Expert Medical Opinion
Voluntary Benefits

Purpose of the role
This role assists CarMax in staying on top of the Employee Health Benefits industry broadly as well as what other large, best-in-class employers are doing. This Senior Manager will leverage both market and CarMax-specific trends to support program changes or innovative strategies. This requires influential presentations to senior leaders in the organization and leadership of large cross-functional projects such as RFPs and plan implementations. It is critical to develop influential and effective relationships with internal teams such as Payroll, Legal, HRTS, Strategy, Procurement, other Total Rewards Managers, and also have a strong focus on managing external vendors to support and advance the Health programs. This role is expected to understand and effectively apply the relevant regulations to ensure CarMax plans remain compliant, in partnership with counsel. This Senior Manager guides, mentors, and removes barriers for a team of Analysts responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Health programs.
What you will do - Essential Responsibilities
With oversight and accountability into the Benefits Director, this role is responsible for ideation and influence in the areas of Health Benefits plan design, strategy and innovation as well as contributing toward benchmarking and market research
Owns, oversees and advances the Health Benefits programs
Understands the connections, dependencies, and impacts within the various Health Benefits portfolio, to ensure operational complexities are expertly identified
Utilizes strong vendor management skills to drive results and service levels
Leverages exceptional communication skills to present to senior executives throughout the year and drive Associate engagement strategy for the Health Benefits programs
With accountability into the Benefits Director and VP of Total Rewards, this role develops annual plan budgets; guide outside actuary in the development of self-funded rates for the medical, dental and vision plans to ensure the assumptions meet CarMax's needs
Leverages knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to ensure CarMax is compliant across all of the Health Benefits programs, with the support of counsel
Manage a team of Analysts; offer growth, development and mentorship to the team
Qualifications and Requirements
Education/Experience:
5+ years experience in employee benefits or other relevant/applicable work experience
2+ years experience managing people is preferred

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required
Experience with Workday is a plus, but not required
