Build Engineer, Integration (Starship) - Night Shift at SpaceX
Brownsville, TX, United States
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
BUILD ENGINEER, INTEGRATION (STARSHIP) - NIGHT SHIFT
Build Engineers are hands on with the product and are responsible for developing requirements and facilities capable of building orbital Starship and Super Heavy, faster than anyone thought possible. Starship integration will make or break the rate at which Starships are produced, and we are looking to build a team of engineers to tackle this challenge. Starship will be the world's most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, with the ability to carry in excess of 100 metric tons to Earth orbit. In order to meet this goal, we ultimately need thousands of ships to establish a self-sustaining base in Mars or the Moon.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate as a systems level engineer to collect requirements then integrate and validate a functional subsystem to those requirements
Design and implement tooling solutions to eliminate assembly error and improve quality
Automate novel processes to ensure repeatability on a large scale production line
Prove that a subsystem work center meets cycle time requirements, or own the design change required to meet target cycle time
Become a subject matter expert for the build of a vehicle level system like aero control surfaces, propellant feed systems, actuation systems, thermal protection systems, secondary structures, etc.
Generate and maintain design for manufacturing requirements for the processes used to build Starship
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering physics
Hands-on project experience with mechanical systems
2+ years of manufacturing design experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1+ years of system level acceptance test exposure
2+ years of professional experience in the field of aerospace/mechanical engineering
2+ years of experience with GD&T concepts
Experience with large steel structure construction (civil, naval, or mechanical)
Experience with mechanical design, including basic structures calculations and design considerations
Process development, facility and line layouts, error-proofing
Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter CAD and PLM systems
Prior experience with developing, maintaining and improving welding processes
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
