The Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Preventionist is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to residents. The Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Preventionist implements the infection prevention and control program and education. Collaborates with resident and family, other inter-disciplinary colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Responsible for the coordination of care, resident assessment, resident education, and various other nursing interventions. Provides clinical education to employees with the goal of providing services excellence and decreasing the risk of infectious disease transmission.

Education Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educates staff, residents, and families on infection prevention policies.

  • Conducts infection surveillance. Monitors and gathers data to ensure that possible outbreaks are mitigated.

  • Handles outbreaks according to approved protocols.

  • Stays up to date and educations staff on principles of standard precautions. (e.g., content on hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, injection safety, respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, environmental cleaning and disinfection, and reprocessing reusable resident care equipment)

  • Educates on resident care activities (e.g., use and care of indwelling urinary and central venous catheters, wound management, and point-of-care blood testing)

  • Follows and educations on preventing respiratory infections (e.g., influenza, pneumonia) and tuberculosis prevention.

  • Maintains and follows current policy on Antibiotic stewardship.

  • Remains current with infection prevention and control issues and be aware of national organizations' guidelines as well as those from national/state/local public health authorities. (e.g., emerging pathogens)

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of the clinical and epidemiologic aspects of infectious diseases, including infection prevention and control best practices, modes of transmission, and factors affecting disease transmission, prevention, and treatment.

  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements for long-term care.

  • Two years of experience in a healthcare field.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

Certification/Licensure Requirements:

  • Current nursing licensure in state(s) of employment.

  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

  • Current BLS or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire/transfer.

Pay Range

$68598 - $102898 / year

The approximate base compensation range is posted, but the actual offer will reflect our total compensation and benefits package. The offer will be determined by a number of factors including the selected candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, FTE, as well as internal equity among our team.
