Description
SAIC has an opening for a Space Protection Systems Engineer to provide systems engineering and technical advisory (SETA) services to a rapidly expanding Government Intelligence Community (IC) customer. This position supports a Systems Program Office (SPO) in developing next-generation space and ground systems architectures, hardware and software solutions.
The Space Protection Systems Engineer will perform technical planning for the acquisition of ground system capabilities that advance an agency's space resiliency posture. The Space Protection Systems Engineer is a member of a team of SMEs that work with other SPOs to develop technical plans and requirements to acquire, integrate and field ground software systems to protect space-based assets.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serves as the SPO's representative technical expert in reviewing and improving architectures, interface control documents (ICDs), and requirements that convey the ground system needs
Is a Space Protection subject matter expert (SME) that understands the systems and interfaces necessary to satisfy mission requirements
Coordinates with other IC and DoD program offices to identify and implement partnership opportunities
Develops and presents briefings to technical boards to guide the SPO through the engineering and acquisition trade space
Represents the SPO as a technical SME during agency and mission partner coordination activities
Supports Contracting Office Technical Representatives (COTRs) and software developers in understanding, refining, and implementing software system designs
Develops, coordinates (with other SPOs), and maintains Concepts of Operation (CONOPs) and other supporting documentation that define mission needs
Coordinates the development of tools and techniques to analyze current and historical patterns of the behaviors of on-orbit systems and their trends, in order to indicate changes in their operations
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors and 14 years or more experience; OR Masters and 12 years or more experience; OR PhD and 9 or more experience
Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Polygraph
Exceptional communication and coordination skills
Interest and ability to work is a fast-pace and dynamic work environment
Experience in space systems activities and operations
Knowledge of IC and DoD space systems
Experience in and desire to perform duties related to Government System Engineering disciplines, including requirements, readiness, and test
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in and knowledge of space domain awareness
2+ years supporting a space or ground system program office
Knowledge of ground systems that support space-based systems
Familiarity with Agile software development
Familiarity with ephemeris data and orbital mechanics
Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices and tools
