DATA ENGINEER (STARLINK CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE)
SpaceX is looking for a Data Engineer responsible for developing the strategy, key metrics, tools, software services and processes for assessing how well (beyond uptime and latency) the Starlink Network is serving millions of users around the globe. You will work with operators, subsystem responsible engineers, software engineers, network engineers inside the Starlink organization as well as key contacts at various major content providers. Your solutions will inform Starlink customer support, operations and engineering teams of any regression in the customers' experience. You will participate in product and design decisions to better prepare Starlink for emerging and future application trends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build and maintain mission-critical services, tools, processes, and custom software to objectively assess the application experience of Starlink's users around the world
Define and create real-time and historical metrics, dashboards, and KPIs to monitor network performance, outages, and regressions
Identify emerging trends for popular applications (e.g. social media, collaboration, VPN, online gaming, Video Streaming) and their impact on the Starlink infrastructure
Process large amount of data and create predictive models for failures and anomaly detection
Establish and maintain relationship with key third party application/content owner
Lead technical investigations about chronic application-level issues
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, physics, mathematics, or a STEM discipline
1+ year professional, or educational/intern experience in analytics, data science, data engineering, or software engineering
Development experience with SQL, Python, Spark, R, or other programming languages
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience with developing tools used for data analysis
Experience working with in-stream data processing of structured and semi-structured data
Experience with schema design and dimensional data modeling
Experience working in a Linux environment, and open source tools
Hand on experience with Wireshark
Experience with protocols such as TCP/IP/UDP including application layer such as DNS/HTTP
Hands on experience with Netflow/IPfix big data analysis
Demonstrated ability to own projects from start to completion
Ability to take on projects that require taking initiative and developing new expertise
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to travel to setup initial infrastructure
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
