Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Monitor Tech is responsible for measuring and monitoring EKG waveforms. They communicate information to nursing and clinicians in an effective and efficient manner utilizing hospital policy. The Monitor Tech is critical to contributing to patient safety and safe patient outcomes.

Essential Job Functions

- Provides continuous cardiac monitor observation.

- Informs nurses of essential information regarding equipment, changes in cardiac rhythm, and patient updates.

- Compiles patient data and report on a shift by shift basis.

- Takes care of the monitoring equipment and notification of bio-medical when equipment needs to be replaced or taken out of service for repairs.

Answers the phone and call physician consults, programs phones, cameras, and answers call lights

Paper work associated with admissions and discharges

Licensing/Certification

Education

High School/GED (required)

Work Experience

Prior EKG or telemetry experience (preferred)

Training

Successful completion of EKG/arrhythmia exam (required by end of orientation)

EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
