The Senior Manager, Data Science leads a team of data scientists focused on various data science initiatives across T-Mobile's business. The Senior Manager, Data Science is responsible for collecting business inputs, developing, and maintaining a resource planning strategy, and successfully delivering epics and sprints. The Senior Manager, Data Science constantly weighs the needs of the data science team against the needs of the business to identify and address opportunities for future operational improvement. This role has responsibility for hiring, termination, development, performance, and salary decisions. The chief contribution of the Sr Manager is their ability to make decisions regarding the short and long-term planning of resources; this role will manage, grow, and mature a team of highly skilled Data Scientists, leading through change, motivating, and inspiring the team to do their best work to deliver on its mission. The ideal candidate will excel at leading a team to delivery on a strategic Data Science vision and roadmap that achieves targeted business outcomes.
What you'll do in your role.
Partner with leaders across T-Mobile to understand the -art of the possible- and identify AI/ML opportunities to grow our business, reduce costs, manage risk, detect anomalous behavior, forecast/predict outcomes, and delight our customers
Work with business partners to understand business challenges, develop business cases, capture requirements, co-create solutions that drive business change that solve the challenges and deliver impactful business outcomes
Coach Data Scientists in the development of data science solutions from problem framing, data collection, model development, deployment, and performance measurement.
Hire, develop and retain a team of data scientists with diverse skillsets and experience levels.
Continuously improve data science operations to optimize efficiency, create durable scale, and build a world-class data science team.
Work with cross-functional teams to implement new solutions that facilitate better data integrity, reliability, and differentiation of the business' quantitative solutions.
Partner with T-Mobile data organizations to unlock the value of T-Mobiles data by increasing the use of data and data science capabilities to drive growth and cost savings
Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with senior internal customers within and outside the Technology organization to deliver on data and analytic strategies
Maintain up-to-date knowledge advances in data and data science disciplines and understand applications to T-Mobile's business and strategy
Leverage the Agile methodology to ensure alignment of data science roadmap, features, and stories to business priorities and value streams
Lead the ideation, design, development, and adoption of machine learning models to drive quantitative and qualitative business outcomes
Partner with other technology partners such as architects, engineers, product owners, scrum masters, release train engineers and agile coaches to deliver on targeted business outcomes
Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.
The experience you'll bring.
7+ years' experience generating data-driven solutions and explaining machine learning and analytical concepts to diverse audiences and multiple levels of leadership
4+ years' experience with data querying, wrangling, cleaning, and feature engineering working with common relational and non-relational databases in big data environments such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
4+ years' experience using Python, R, SAS, and/or other predictive modeling and machine learning tools in big data environments
4+ years' experience building and deploying data mining, visualization, statistical modeling, and machine learning solutions using various supervised/unsupervised ML algorithms
2+ years' experience in the telecom industry
2+ years' experience leading and managing a team preferred.
Advanced degree, Masters/PDH, in quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Finance or Operational Research
Superior communication and persuasion skills, talent for storytelling, visualization, and creating insights from data to deliver practical recommendations for business action
Track record of using Advanced Statistical modeling and Machine Learning to drive significant revenue or cost savings for large enterprises
Experience working in a customer-centric environment that leverages the agile delivery methodology preferred
Entrepreneurial spirit, persistence, and resilience; comfort with and ability to thrive and drive change while navigating ambiguity
A thought leader and evangelist to drive knowledge and application of machine learning and data science at all levels of T-Mobile
Attract and nurture talent to maintain competitive advantage in the fast-changing data science ecosystem
Strong analytical, critical-thinking skills with demonstrated ability to identify/analyze/synthesize data and use the data to drive decisions
At least 18 years of age
Legally authorized to work in the United States
High School Diploma or GED
