About this job
We are looking for a Manager to join our Corporate and Business Development team. This team runs a corporate venture capital program investing in startups, assesses and executes on M&A, and drives strategic partnerships. This Manager will play a critical role in identifying and analyzing opportunities, building organizational buy-in, and doing deals. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable brainstorming long-term strategy, running a DCF analysis, and making connections with startup founders at industry events.
Responsibilities of Role
Help CarMax assess potential opportunities including venture investments, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships, using financial, strategic, and commercial lenses.
Assist with full lifecycle of venture activity, researching the competitive landscape, vetting startups, negotiating deal terms and structure, and building connections between the startup and the appropriate CarMax departments to initiate tests and pilots.
Assist with full lifecycle of M&A activity, including vetting opportunities, conducting diligence, building financial models, running valuation analyses, and executing post-merger integration.
Assist with strategic partnerships, including vetting opportunities, executing tests and pilots, and managing relationships between partners and internal stakeholders.
Manage a process to track and report on CarMax's investment and partnership portfolio. Prepare quarterly reporting for CarMax's Investment Committee.
Provide thought leadership to CarMax leaders on emerging frontier trends (e.g., electrification, autonomy) based on research and interactions with industry and startup contacts.
Represent CarMax externally at conferences and industry events
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor's degree (MBA or JD a plus)
2-5 years in venture capital or investment banking
Experience running financial modeling and utilizing valuation frameworks
Willingness to travel periodically
