The retail pharmacies at Banner Health provide a valuable, convenient service to our employees, hospital-based patients, and patients from our clinics. These services help to reduce readmission rates, improve patient outcomes, and assist in keeping Banner's health care costs to a minimum. Retail pharmacies are the most frequently visited health care provider and as such Banner retail pharmacists are positioned to have a major impact on patient outcomes. This position is located at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center.

As part of the team at Banner Family Pharmacy Thunderbird, you will have the opportunity to make patient's lives better by making healthcare easier. Our team focuses on filling prescriptions for hospital discharge patients and Banner plan members. Filling patient prescriptions before discharge not only makes our services more convenient for patients but also improves outcomes. We are like any other retail pharmacy without drive-thru and more lead time. We collaborate with nurses and doctors to make sure medications are affordable and that patient goes home on all the prescribed medications. This is a full time, varied shift opportunity working 3, 10-hour shifts per week within the hours of 6:00am-8:00pm Monday-Friday and 8:00am-6:00pm Saturday and Sunday including rotating weekends (1 weekend per month) and rotating holidays. Schedule subject to change based on business needs.

Clinical Pharmacy Services provides collaborative drug therapy management and educational interventions in patient care to optimize medication therapy, improve outcomes, promote wellness, and disease prevention. POSITION SUMMARY

This position will prepare, dispense, and compound medication under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provide prescription support services for patients to ensure safe, appropriate, effective and efficient delivery of medication therapy. Provide excellent customer service skills, high attention to detail, strong problem solving, documentation and computer skills. Work closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support pharmaceutical care activities, complete pharmacy billing activities, record keeping, reporting, inventory management, and arrange appropriate medication delivery.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, review and interpret prescriptions.

  2. Prepare and dispense appropriate amount of medication under supervision of a pharmacist. Deliver medications accurately to the patient.

  3. Answer phones, accept prescriptions, and may communicate with patients in waiting area.

  4. Assist with inventory, maintain a clean work environment, and assist with any other administrative duties as assigned by supervising pharmacists or senior technicians.

  5. Follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements and perform other work assignments

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.

Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.

Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant work experience. Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required. Strong customer service focus, superior problem-solving abilities. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required.

BSS Registry Team members and Travelers are not eligible to drive on behalf of Banner and are not required to possess a valid driver's license or be eligible for coverage under the company's auto insurance policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associates or bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Proficiency and experience with third party claims adjudication and claims rejection reconciliation preferred. Proficiency and experience with non-sterile, sterile and hazardous drug compounding preferred. Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred. Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable program.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
