Responsible for assembling, connecting and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains and water mainsEnsures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipesAlign pipes and seals joints together with cement or glueConfigure pipe routeAlign pipes in pipeline sectionsDig trenches with trenching toolsSlide pipe into trenchesInsert spaces in between pipesPull out defective or misaligned pipesCorrect alignments with sledgehammersInspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specificationsLay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers drain and water mainsGrade trenches or culvertsSeal jointsUse glue or welding equipment to ensure pipes are tightly fittedEnsure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levelsCover pipes with dirt or other materialDrill holes into pipes for auxiliary linesPerform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those needing repairUtilize magnetic or radio indicatorsSalary Range: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour (DOE)Requirements:Positive attendanceTeam playerPipe layers do a great deal of manual labor; must be ability to lift 50-100 lbsCurrent OSHA 10 certification a plusRequired PPE: hard hat, safety vest, steel toe boots, safety glasses, work glovesMust be able to pass a preemployment drug screen and background check
