We have an exciting opportunity for an intern on our Development Team servicing Southeast Michigan. As an intern supporting our Heart Challenge (CycleNation & Heart Walk) events, you will play a key role in driving the success of these impactful campaigns. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks that contribute to the planning, execution, and follow-up of these life-saving initiatives.

The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

Internship Duration:1/21/25 - 5/2/25

Location: Hybrid Position - Intern must be based in the Metro Detroit or the Ann Arbor Area

Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Event Planning & Support: Assist with the planning, coordinating, and executing pre-event logistics, on-site event management for Heart Challenge events.

  • Event Participant Outreach & Engagement: Conduct pre-event outreach to attendees of social events, conduct follow-up calls to past and current coaches/captains, top fundraising participants, and survivors to support participation.

  • Sponsor Support: Assist with sponsor presentation preparation and gathering materials for sponsor follow-up after meetings, helping to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Data & Reporting: Assist with pulling reports, data entry, and organizing event-related information to track progress and outcomes.

  • Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing printed materials, assembling thank-you cards, and organizing event supplies.

  • Hands-Only CPR Events: Support the planning and execution of Hands-Only CPR demonstrations, helping promote our mission of creating a world of healthier lives.

Qualifications

- Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, nonprofit fundraising, or event management.

- Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.

  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of Canva.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi connection and reliable transportation.

- Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
