Your Mission:
As the Chief Scientist for AI Assurance, you'll be the visionary leader steering the future of AI technology at ATL. Your role is pivotal in crafting long-term technology roadmaps, proposing impactful internal investments, forging groundbreaking strategic partnerships, and securing new business opportunities. Your mission includes:
Innovation Leader: Design and implement long-term AI Assurance roadmaps with a focus on revolutionary applications in Autonomy and Battle Management. You'll work alongside senior technical leaders, including LM Fellows, to ensure our strategies align seamlessly with Lockheed Martin's business areas.
R&D Trailblazer: Lead the definition of technical content for strategic internal R&D projects, ensuring they meet the highest standards of excellence. Your leadership will be instrumental in building new AI Assurance capabilities within ATL.
Academic Connector: Engage with top universities to identify and integrate emerging technologies, promote research aligned with our strategic goals, and establish new partnerships. Your efforts will not only drive innovation but also strengthen our future talent pipeline.
Government Partner: Collaborate with US Government R&D organizations, including DoD laboratories and Science & Technology funding bodies like DARPA, to secure new business ventures. Your engagement will be key to driving ATL's business growth and technological advancements.

Basic Qualifications:
- Demonstrated technical excellence and innovation in core technical areas relevant to Testing, Evaluation, Verification and Validation (TEV&V) and Certification of complex distributed safety-critical aerospace systems including advanced AI/ML components is required. These areas include model-based systems engineering, formal methods, simulation-based V&V, assurance cases, ML architectures, ML Test/Verification, AI Safety & Security, Responsible AI, and MLOps.
- Record of successful engagement with US Gov. R&D organizations, including DoD laboratories and Science and Technology (S&T) funding organizations (DARPA, ARL, AFRL, ONR, NASA, IARPA in particular), leading customer shaping and winning proposal efforts.
- Record of leading technology transitions from early prototypes to products.
- Record of partnering with universities for talent acquisition and joint proposal.
- Record of securing internal funding (IR&D) for new R&D concepts.
- Experience in mentoring junior technical staff (technical and resource acquisition).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- MS with 18 years of experience or PhD with 15 years of experience (preferred) in an area of science or engineering relevant to assurance
- Eligibility to obtain USG Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:
- Experience in AI/ML areas applicable to Autonomy, Robotics, and Battle Management is desired. These areas include machine learning, machine reasoning, neuro-symbolic AI, generative AI, and human-machine systems, and robotics.
- Project management experience
- Current USG Secret Clearance
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
