Advises customers with automotive service needs determines work and repairs to be accomplished. May perform vehicle maintenance work. Duties and Responsibilities : Meets all customers and assists them with their automotive needs. Based on a sound and visual inspection of customers vehicle determines work parts and repairs required to correct malfunction. Schedules appointments for customer requiring general service and or maintenance services on their automobiles and assigns work to mechanics. Completes applicable customer service forms for all work indicating parts and supplies number description and price. Calculates cost of labor utilizing a current Chilton Labor Guide and Navy Exchange Pricing Guide. May issue parts and supplies to mechanics. Processes special orders for automotive replacement parts to complete a specific job or for Do-it-yourself customers. Notifies such customers when order is received and maintains log of Special Order merchandise. May place orders for parts. Whenever a lubrication or oil change is performed on a patrons vehicle ensures that a safety maintenance inspection is conducted utilizing the Pit Stop Safety Check Form SS 582. Prepares a repair tag SS 324 to identify patrons merchandise left for repair such as tires batteries etc. Ensures that a current commercial publication outlining time requirement is available for determining labor costs and that posted price lists are current. Ensures that chargebacks are prepared for special order merchandise ordered and forwards copy to vendor for credit. Is responsible for the security and tagging of this merchandise to indicate cost price. Checks completed repair work is performed on customers automobile to ensure completeness that work is accomplished properly and charges are accurate. Ensures that authorized service is completed by having vehicle road tested by qualified individual. Resolves questions and complaints. May use Point-of-Sales system processing cash exchanges discounts gift cards credit cards debit cards cash handling including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customer where applicable. May complete various forms of paperwork reports and reconciliation of documents related to POS transactions where applicable As required may assist in the installation of accessories automotive tune-ups shock absorbers mufflers tires batteries etc. Takes and or participates in required inventories. Observes all safety fire and sanitation regulations and maintains a neat and clean work area. Exercises tact good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. Tactfully responds to patron inquiries and assists patrons in a prompt and friendly manner. Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who issues broad guidelines and instructions. Performs assignments independently and within the framework of established policies and procedures. Completed work is reviewed in terms of efficiency of operation and customer satisfaction. Performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL EFFORT Is required to stand stoop bend stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts worked on are in hard-to-reach places. May lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Normally works inside on concrete floor where it is drafty and noisy and where fumes from vehicles are present and occasionally outside sometimes in bad weather. Is exposed to dirt dust and grease. Is subject to cuts bruises burns shocks and strains. TRAINING REQUIREMENT Associate must receive hazardous material HazMat training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE One year of experience that provided general knowledge of vehicle mechanical operations. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Three years of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to identify and determine and or perform necessary work to repair and service a variety of automotive systems component parts accessories etc. to correct malfunctions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Is required to stand stoop bend stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts worked on are in hard-to-reach places.
