Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Engineering Manager will act as a subject matter expert for project management, analytical, industrial engineering, and Six Sigma support for the organization. Manage improvement projects with the goals of; increased customer satisfaction, sustainable low cost, increased reliability, reduced service variability, improved quality, and shorter cycle times. Consult and/or participate in select Lean Six Sigma improvement projects or initiatives. Responsible for documenting processes, measuring performance, analyzing performance drivers, providing statistical controls, monitoring progress, and identifying opportunities for process or system improvements that achieve operational efficiencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform a variety of routine tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering staff, methods, practices, and programs of the organization.

  2. Provide subject matter expert support to achieve goals and successfully complete assigned projects, verify statistical analysis, and Six Sigma processes.

  3. Partner with Senior Management, business leaders, subject matter experts, project teams and functional/non-functional partners to develop solutions to critical daily business challenges.

  4. Lead project teams to define project scope, analyze complex variables, identify effective solutions, and develop implementation and control plans using appropriate Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering methodologies and tools.

  5. Lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams and communicate the teams' progress to business leadership. Progress will be measured by regularly monitoring performance against defined milestones, as well as improvements in key metrics.

  6. Apply Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering approach and methods to analyze root cause issues and identify a creative solution to the problem.

  7. Prepare analyses and present information on improvement opportunities to Senior Leadership as well as within the assigned business area where the project resides.

  8. Develop documentation for assigned projects.

  9. Identify cross-functional or complex projects and drive projects to achieve maximum results.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering and eight (8) years industrial engineering experience or no degree and twelve (12) years industrial engineering or operations management experience.

  2. Demonstrated strong project management proficiency, including high level and high profile projects.

  3. Experience using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  4. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including to audiences of highly knowledgeable professionals.

  5. Understand sample size calculations for statistical tests and associated risks.

  6. Possess strong influencing, coaching, and facilitative skills with the ability to bring teams together to achieve targets and goals.

  7. Ability to diagnose and affect cultural change in moderate to difficult circumstances.

  8. Willingness to travel up to 50% and nights and weekends when required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.

  1. Demonstrated Lean Six Sigma/Industrial Engineering proficiency in analyses including basic statistics, control charts, and capability analysis statistical tests.

  2. Project management certification.

  3. Valid Sigma Black Belt certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental working conditions vary and employee may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather, varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting and confined and congested areas and occasionally exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
