The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Operations and Risk Director to support the USAA Educational Foundation.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is available for this position.

The Operations and Risk Director will be responsible for the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Foundation to include coordination across USAA functions via a support services agreement and various 3P vendors that assist the team in operations and content creation. Additionally, they will lead the first line of defense risk program with reporting up to the USAA Educational Foundation (USAAEF) and USAA Foundation (USAAF) Board of Directors. Manage and drive the operational planning across the team and enabling dynamic planning through an integrated IT (e.g., SalesForce) solution. Lead the operations of the USAAEF and USAAF Board of Directors while serving as the management lead for the Governance, Risk and Audit Committee of both Foundations.

What you'll do:

  • Provides support and direction to team members and functional partners with identifying and solving identified opportunities, resolving gaps as they are identified, and updating reporting metrics.

  • Assists and mentors team members and project managers in developing problem solving approach, identifying gaps, and determining optimal way to aggregate and communicate findings.

  • Manages broad functional projects and/or participates as a SME resource on larger initiatives to support business requirements, specifically focused on strategic and operational planning and risk programs.

  • Represents the business or staff agency as the subject matter expert and may be a proxy for executive leadership.

  • Maintains broad system knowledge, stays current on all system enhancements, identifies training needs, and implements plans.

  • Gathers information, analyzes data and trends to identify and implement business optimization opportunities and insights on Foundation mission fulfilment.

  • Supports the team with assigned analysis, contributes to leading discussions of strategic options and recommendations for the Foundation.

  • Directs and oversees multiple initiatives in support of risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives including but not limited to: oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, CoSA Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Responsible for first line of defense data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis, utilizing business intelligence tools up to the Foundation President, the Governance Risk and Audit chair and the Foundation Board of Directors.

  • Influences and develops innovative solutions to mitigate risk and prevent risk exposures which result in significant business impacts.

  • Stays informed of changes to the regulatory environment to ensure proper compliance with processes and requirements are followed.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of progressive experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.

  • 8 years of experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Previous leadership experience with Risk/Compliance programs.

  • 4 years of experience in end-to-end analysis and/or operations experience, including: requirement gathering and documentation, operational planning and forecasting, data analytics, or current/future state analysis, in direct support of business planning initiatives and optimization of business operations.

  • Knowledge of business operations and systems/business requirements processes.

  • Experience facilitating and driving collaboration to common understanding of business requirements and driving standard enterprise-wide business processes.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.

  • Experience managing governance programs.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $120,550 - $230,400 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Serves as a direct representative of the business on an agile team. Attains, understands, and communicates business vision and needs to write and refine user stories/features/epics, prioritize work, and provide mentorship to technical teams across programs/portfolios. What you'll do:

  • Works with business and Subject Matter Experts to understand business strategy and vision and then writes, refines, accepts, and prioritizes stories, features or epics to support effective and compliant solutions while balancing investment and business value.

  • Owns and maintains a prioritized work backlog for a single or multiple Agile teams or program. Product backlog includes complete user stories or features with acceptance criteria so that they are consumable and testable by the Agile team or program. Reviews and accepts output of I/T and/or business development to ensure specified acceptance criteria have been completed.

  • Serves as a knowledgeable collaborator across multiple business or system domains; is encouraged to lead development across multiple teams at the program and Epic level.

  • Serves as direct representative of the business with one or more delivery teams throughout the product delivery cycle.

  • Participates in a cross-functional team of user experience partners, designers, business analysts, developers, testers, and others to develop, execute, solution and release in alignment with program, portfolio, or product road maps.

  • Partners with sponsors, stakeholders, and IT to facilitate, define and detail relevant business processes, gaining an expert understanding of the needs, measures, and risks & controls for the improvement area.

  • Participates with portfolio, program and project level plans related to schedule, scope and resources.

  • Prepares the business for the change and provides tactics and metrics for benefits, adoption, and risk. Leverages existing change management routines, as needed.

  • Applies expert knowledge in the business development/execution discipline, regularly seeking out opportunities to enhance, improve and advance the function.

  • Coaches and mentors less experienced Product Owners, including Seniors.

  • Demonstrates expert knowledge in multiple business or system domains and capable of leading development across multiple teams at the program level.

  • Identifies, engages, influences, and leads business stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts across programs.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of experience in process improvement, project delivery, business/requirements analysis or directly related to supported business operations/product line.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products, applicable databases, and product management tools.

  • Expert knowledge of multiple technical software delivery methodologies (i.e., Agile, Waterfall, SAFe) with a proven track record in using these skills to develop and manage products through the entire product life cycle.

  • Expert experience in analyzing business requirements, process flows and use cases to identify opportunities to streamline business processes in accordance with risk management framework and regulatory requirements.

  • Expert understanding and demonstrated use of Process Engineering methodologies and Change Management practices to translate business requirements into functional specifications.

  • Expert ability to independently work to gather business requirements, process flows and use cases to develop and deliver on business capabilities within the approved methodology, writing user stories, and following the development process through user story acceptance.

  • Advanced experience in analyzing and translating business requirements and the ability to identify opportunities to streamline business processes in accordance with risk management framework and regulatory requirements.

This executive role oversees the identification and development of business analytics programs in line with overall company goals and principles. The Opportunity

We are currently seeking dedicated professionals to work in our Phoenix office for future Entry Level Claims Adjuster opportunities in 2024 . Work schedules will vary and may include some weekends. We have new training classes starting every month. Military veterans and spouses are highly encouraged to apply.

As an Associate Auto Claims Adjuster your work will focus on adjusting non-injury auto claims. You'll work under supervision to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and adjust low complexity auto insurance claims presented by or against our members. This will include the end-to-end claims process and settling claims in compliance with state laws and regulations. In this role, you will make a difference to our members as you deliver best in class customer service through setting appropriate expectations, proactively communicating and providing advice to deliver appropriate solutions to the member.

What you'll do:

  • Acquire and apply basic knowledge of auto coverages, auto physical damage, and liability, in order to evaluate and settle high volume and low complexity auto claims such as; simple comprehensive and collision (i.e., single vehicle, parked and unoccupied, clear liability), glass, roadside, and rental vehicle coverages for repairable vehicles.

  • Resolve claims through proactive problem solving and decision making, within authority guidelines and under direct supervision, while overcoming obstacles, and effectively prioritizing the workload.

  • Clearly document thought process including damage evaluation, investigation, negotiation, and settlement decisions.

  • Collaborate and set expectations with external and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution.

  • Support members, business partners, and claimants, through use of varying communication channels to include utilization of digital tools to drive timely and effective resolutions through exceptional service.

  • Acquire and apply a foundational knowledge of Property and Claims (P&C) insurance industry products, and services, to include P&C insurance policy contracts, coverages and internal claims handling process and procedures.

  • Support workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.

  • May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

The Opportunity

As a dedicated Senior Property Adjuster, you will work within established guidelines and framework to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex property insurance claims presented by or against our members. You will confirm and analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure and negotiate equitable settlements in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong virtual estimating skills for moderate to large severity losses and/or reconcile estimates while working in a telephone concentrated environment without physical inspection of loss.

This hybrid role requires an individual to be in the office 3 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Chesapeake, VA, and Phoenix, AZ. Typical work schedules are 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (local time) Monday to Friday and may include some weekends. The Inside Property Adjuster role is a call center environment with a high volume of calls. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with paid overtime available. We have new training classes starting every month. Relocation assistance is not available.

What you'll do:

  • Proactively manages assigned claims caseload comprised of claims with moderate complexity damages that require commensurate knowledge and understanding of claims coverage.

  • Partners with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate moderate complexity claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.

  • Investigates claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources. May identify and resolve potential discrepancies and identifies subrogation potential resulting from unusual characteristics.

  • Identifies coverage concerns, reviews prior loss history, determines and creates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals, when appropriate. Determines coverage through analyzing investigation information involving moderate complexity policy terms and contingencies.

  • Determines and negotiates moderate complexity claims settlement. Develops recommendations and collaborates with management for determining settlement amounts outside of authority limits and accurately manages claims outcomes.

  • Maintains accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.

  • Applies proficient knowledge of estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools; Utilizes platforms and tools to prepare claims estimates to manage moderate complexity property insurance claims.

  • Applies working knowledge of industry standards of inspection, damage mitigation and restoration techniques.

  • Serves as an informal resource for team members.

  • Recognizes and addresses jurisdictional challenges such as applicable legislation and construction considerations.

  • Demonstrated negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

The Opportunity

As a dedicated Senior Property Adjuster, you will work within established guidelines and framework to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex property insurance claims presented by or against our members. You will confirm and analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure and negotiate equitable settlements in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong virtual estimating skills for moderate to large severity losses and/or reconcile estimates while working in a telephone concentrated environment without physical inspection of loss.

This hybrid role requires an individual to be in the office 3 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Chesapeake, VA, and Phoenix, AZ. Typical work schedules are 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (local time) Monday to Friday and may include some weekends. The Inside Property Adjuster role is a call center environment with a high volume of calls. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with paid overtime available. We have new training classes starting every month. Relocation assistance is not available.

What you'll do:

  • Proactively manages assigned claims caseload comprised of claims with moderate complexity damages that require commensurate knowledge and understanding of claims coverage.

  • Partners with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate moderate complexity claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.

  • Investigates claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources. May identify and resolve potential discrepancies and identifies subrogation potential resulting from unusual characteristics.

  • Identifies coverage concerns, reviews prior loss history, determines and creates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals, when appropriate. Determines coverage through analyzing investigation information involving moderate complexity policy terms and contingencies.

  • Determines and negotiates moderate complexity claims settlement. Develops recommendations and collaborates with management for determining settlement amounts outside of authority limits and accurately manages claims outcomes.

  • Maintains accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.

  • Applies proficient knowledge of estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools; Utilizes platforms and tools to prepare claims estimates to manage moderate complexity property insurance claims.

  • Applies working knowledge of industry standards of inspection, damage mitigation and restoration techniques.

  • Serves as an informal resource for team members.

  • Recognizes and addresses jurisdictional challenges such as applicable legislation and construction considerations.

  • Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.

  • May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.

  • Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed.

  • Demonstrated negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

The Opportunity

As a dedicated Senior Audit Manager - Third-Party Risk Management / Legal Risk, you will manage audit engagements, varying in complexity, and often participates in complex, cross-functional risk-based assurance and advisory engagements driving quality of audit work. May lead engagements as Auditor-In-Charge (AIC). Maintains knowledge of financial services regulations and effectively responds and interacts with regulators. Provides oversight to multiple audit engagements and participates in review of engagement planning, fieldwork and reporting. Manages strategic initiatives and assists with the development and implementation of a risk-based audit plan. Serves, and/or partners with subject matter expert(s) within audit or the business to analyze issues, establish collaborative client relationships, and proactively work with client management to assess risk and improve internal controls. Adheres to the Institute of Internal Auditors' International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards) and Code of Ethics.

What you'll do:

  • Influences business and clients across the enterprise regarding effective internal controls and mitigating risks across the full Enterprise taxonomy and challenges business management to adopt appropriate policies and procedures and effective controls designed to mitigate risks.

  • Manages audit engagement-related efforts and assignments of staff with varying degrees of expertise and experience when conducting engagements, specialized audits or business audits recognizing the cross-matrixing and cross-functionality within the specialized functions/business areas.

  • Independently prepares, reviews, and leads continuous monitoring and advisory activities, special reviews and investigations.

  • Ensures assigned audit engagements are completed objectively, professionally, timely and in accordance with corporate and industry audit standards.

  • Approves the engagement risk and control matrix and scope of the audit for final review and approval by Audit Leadership.

  • Proactively identifies control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the current operating environment providing recommendations for corrective action. Drafts the related audit issues and audit reports for issuance to respective client leadership conducting follow-up activities.

  • Responsible for quality of audit reviews with final signoff of work papers; proposes and/or recommends updates to the universe risk assessment of the entity based on audit results.

  • Leads team activities and provides feedback to the team on audit activities related to planning and scoping, testing and sampling methodology and testing conclusions that demonstrate critical thinking ability.

  • Builds and enhances client relationships across the organization for areas of responsibility helping to drive strategic objectives with the business.

  • Communicates effectively with business/clients to include delivering both risk-based and difficult messages. May be asked to communicate with regulators and executive leaders.

  • Provides recommendations on staffing assignments to audit leadership and guidance to staff members.

  • Provides coaching and guidance to other auditors ensuring timeliness and quality of audit engagement deliverables. May deliver audit team end of engagement evaluations.

  • Provides input into the creation of the internal audit universe and audit entities risk profile. Updates universe risk assessment information with current and applicable research and industry feedback.

  • Participates in development of the Audit annual plan for assigned areas of responsibility including proper assessment and coverage of risks and emerging risks and assists with execution of the annual plan.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant field such as Finance, Accounting, Business, or Information Technology. Four additional years of related experience beyond minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 8 years of audit, financial, insurance, banking, information technology or related business and/or leadership experience.

  • Experience performing internal audits, external audits, or applying audit, risk, or compliance acumen in a complex operational and regulatory environment.

  • Broad and comprehensive experience in Audit theory, internal audit principles with demonstrated experience in audit examining, analyzing, assessing, and drawing conclusions from audit work.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and challenging Controls with business partners and influencing business outcomes.

  • Understanding of risks and internal controls and the ability to evaluate and determine adequacy and efficiency of controls.

  • Experience in a support role, mentoring, and providing feedback to audit team members throughout the audit.

  • Experience in overseeing work with both internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities.

  • Demonstrated experience in highly dynamic environment undergoing change; ability to deal with competing priorities.

The salary range for this position is: $138,230 - $264,200 . Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Operations and Risk Director to support the USAA Educational Foundation.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is available for this position.

The Operations and Risk Director will be responsible for the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Foundation to include coordination across USAA functions via a support services agreement and various 3P vendors that assist the team in operations and content creation. Additionally, they will lead the first line of defense risk program with reporting up to the USAA Educational Foundation (USAAEF) and USAA Foundation (USAAF) Board of Directors. Manage and drive the operational planning across the team and enabling dynamic planning through an integrated IT (e.g., SalesForce) solution. Lead the operations of the USAAEF and USAAF Board of Directors while serving as the management lead for the Governance, Risk and Audit Committee of both Foundations.

What you'll do:

  • Provides support and direction to team members and functional partners with identifying and solving identified opportunities, resolving gaps as they are identified, and updating reporting metrics.

  • Assists and mentors team members and project managers in developing problem solving approach, identifying gaps, and determining optimal way to aggregate and communicate findings.

  • Manages broad functional projects and/or participates as a SME resource on larger initiatives to support business requirements, specifically focused on strategic and operational planning and risk programs.

  • Represents the business or staff agency as the subject matter expert and may be a proxy for executive leadership.

  • Maintains broad system knowledge, stays current on all system enhancements, identifies training needs, and implements plans.

  • Gathers information, analyzes data and trends to identify and implement business optimization opportunities and insights on Foundation mission fulfilment.

  • Supports the team with assigned analysis, contributes to leading discussions of strategic options and recommendations for the Foundation.

  • Directs and oversees multiple initiatives in support of risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives including but not limited to: oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, CoSA Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Responsible for first line of defense data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis, utilizing business intelligence tools up to the Foundation President, the Governance Risk and Audit chair and the Foundation Board of Directors.

  • Influences and develops innovative solutions to mitigate risk and prevent risk exposures which result in significant business impacts.

  • Stays informed of changes to the regulatory environment to ensure proper compliance with processes and requirements are followed.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of progressive experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.

  • 8 years of experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Previous leadership experience with Risk/Compliance programs.

  • 4 years of experience in end-to-end analysis and/or operations experience, including: requirement gathering and documentation, operational planning and forecasting, data analytics, or current/future state analysis, in direct support of business planning initiatives and optimization of business operations.

  • Knowledge of business operations and systems/business requirements processes.

  • Experience facilitating and driving collaboration to common understanding of business requirements and driving standard enterprise-wide business processes.
