The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Operations and Risk Director to support the USAA Educational Foundation.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is available for this position.

The Operations and Risk Director will be responsible for the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Foundation to include coordination across USAA functions via a support services agreement and various 3P vendors that assist the team in operations and content creation. Additionally, they will lead the first line of defense risk program with reporting up to the USAA Educational Foundation (USAAEF) and USAA Foundation (USAAF) Board of Directors. Manage and drive the operational planning across the team and enabling dynamic planning through an integrated IT (e.g., SalesForce) solution. Lead the operations of the USAAEF and USAAF Board of Directors while serving as the management lead for the Governance, Risk and Audit Committee of both Foundations.

What you'll do:

  • Provides support and direction to team members and functional partners with identifying and solving identified opportunities, resolving gaps as they are identified, and updating reporting metrics.

  • Assists and mentors team members and project managers in developing problem solving approach, identifying gaps, and determining optimal way to aggregate and communicate findings.

  • Manages broad functional projects and/or participates as a SME resource on larger initiatives to support business requirements, specifically focused on strategic and operational planning and risk programs.

  • Represents the business or staff agency as the subject matter expert and may be a proxy for executive leadership.

  • Maintains broad system knowledge, stays current on all system enhancements, identifies training needs, and implements plans.

  • Gathers information, analyzes data and trends to identify and implement business optimization opportunities and insights on Foundation mission fulfilment.

  • Supports the team with assigned analysis, contributes to leading discussions of strategic options and recommendations for the Foundation.

  • Directs and oversees multiple initiatives in support of risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives including but not limited to: oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, CoSA Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Responsible for first line of defense data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis, utilizing business intelligence tools up to the Foundation President, the Governance Risk and Audit chair and the Foundation Board of Directors.

  • Influences and develops innovative solutions to mitigate risk and prevent risk exposures which result in significant business impacts.

  • Stays informed of changes to the regulatory environment to ensure proper compliance with processes and requirements are followed.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of progressive experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.

  • 8 years of experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Previous leadership experience with Risk/Compliance programs.

  • 4 years of experience in end-to-end analysis and/or operations experience, including: requirement gathering and documentation, operational planning and forecasting, data analytics, or current/future state analysis, in direct support of business planning initiatives and optimization of business operations.

  • Knowledge of business operations and systems/business requirements processes.

  • Experience facilitating and driving collaboration to common understanding of business requirements and driving standard enterprise-wide business processes.

  • Experience managing governance programs.

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $120,550 - $230,400 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
