Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The New-to-Practice Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates nursing care within established nursing procedures, professional standards, and organizational policies/philosophies under the guidance of a competent experienced RN. The New-to-Practice RN demonstrates the ability to care for a group of patients in a fast-paced, high-intensity setting as part of an interprofessional team focused on achieving the best individual patient and population outcomes. The New-to-Practice RN is responsible for demonstrating core cultural and safety behaviors to eliminate preventable harm, ensure worker safety and a safe, high quality experience of care.

Essential Job Functions

- In collaboration with an experienced Stepdown RN and other members of interdisciplinary teams, safely demonstrates basic knowledge of contemporary nursing practice.

- Applies nursing process with patients in a variety of illness or injury in all ages and populations.

- Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness.

- Administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures.

- Serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments.

- Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department and collaborates with spiritual care, palliative, and ethics when needed

- Serves as a point person for care coordination for family members or caregivers.

- Clinically manages patients with multi-system organ failure and/or multisystem trauma.

- Using the AACN Synergy Model, restores, supports, promotes, rehabilitates, or palliates to maintain the physiologic, psychologic and psychosocial stability of patients across the lifespan.

- Synthesizes and prioritizes information in order to take immediate and decisive evidence-based, patient focused action using clinical judgement and clinical inquiry.

- Anticipates and responds with confidence and adapts to rapidly changing patient conditions.

- Responds to the unique needs of the patients and families coping with unanticipated illness or injury and treatment and advocate for their choices in quality of life.

- BSMH nurses are expected to practice and deliver care in accordance with the core concepts and intention of the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician Certified, under general supervision, will inspect, clean, assemble, test, and processes patient care equipment, supplies, and instruments according to established policies and procedures and according to manufacturer's instructions for use. They will act in accordance to sterility per the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), The Joint Commission (JCAHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and state standards of practice. Primary duties may vary depending on area assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs decontamination functions including manual cleaning and processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment according to manufacturer's instructions for use.

  • Applies proper knowledge of various detergents and chemical disinfectants for use in the decontamination and removal of blood, bone, and other body tissues from contaminated surgical equipment. Adheres to standard precautions while performing cleaning and sterilization duties.

  • Inventories, stocks, and delivers supplies, carts, equipment to all facility areas as indicated per facility guidelines. Orders, restocks, labels, and maintains proper inventory levels. Rotates stock, inspecting for outdates per market requirements.

  • Performs and documents quality control aspects of sterile processing using various information technology systems focusing on instrument tracking, surgery schedules, surgeon preference cards, supply ordering and management. Accurately maintains comprehensive quality assurance standards related to sterilization and infection control.

  • Operates and understands various sterilizers and sterilizing techniques required to produce sterile packages for use in the surgical setting keeping package assembly aseptic protocols in mind. Monitors sterilization regularly ensuring quality assurance through chemical and biological indicators and integrators.

  • Documents all activities as required within the outlined processes and reports variances that may affect the outcome of sterile products or patient care and safety.

  • Identifies and resolves infection control issues in and around transport of biological hazardous materials, including the use of universal precautions and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as sterile product identification.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the operation and testing of washers and/or disinfectors, steam, and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilizers, and other facility specific equipment and instrumentation.

  • Identifies surgical instrumentation by surgical specialty: General, Gynecological, Robotic, ENT, Orthopedics, Neurological, Vascular, Obstetrical, Urological, etcetera. Including functionality testing, assembly and disassembly as required according to manufacturer's instructions for use.

  • Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification opportunities.

  • Participates in the orientation of new staff and students as assigned.

  • Participates in the continuing development of personnel in the Operating Room.

  • Accessible for "on call" as scheduled and is available within the time frames as indicated by the department.

Constant Observer - Behavioral Health - Mercy Lorain Hospital

SHIFT/SCHEDULE:

  • Full Time - Scheduled for 36 Weekly Hours (Three 12 hour shifts)

BASIC PURPOSE :

It is the Constant Observer's responsibility to provide constant observation to patients as directed by the RN. It is expected that safety issues will be monitored and reported to the nursing caregivers. The Constant Observer is utilized to sit with patients who are experiencing the following situations including but not limited to: suicide potential, potential to harm self or others, restless and or confused. The Constant Observer is to maintain continuous visual observation of the patient per BSMH policy.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Responsible for reprocessing if on Endoscopy team.

Harbour View Medical Center is Bon Secours' new, surgically focused hospital, set to open in early 2025. The facility will include 18 medical/surgical beds and up to four operating rooms. The 98,000-square-foot hospital will adjoin the existing Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View campus, which includes an emergency department, outpatient imaging, outpatient lab services, an ambulatory surgery center and physician practices.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Responsible for an assigned hospital facility day to day operations for the medical staff to ensure compliance with the governing documents and the state and federal requirements and applicable accreditation standards. Each facility coordinator is the subject experts for his/her facility in the areas of medical staff governing documents and policies, privileging practice, and accreditation and regulatory issues. Represents administrative issues successfully to influence collaboration between physicians and hospital management. Interacts with Quality Management; Peer Review and physicians to use relevant data to enable identification of practitioners who may not meet the standard of care for the hospital. Manage communication of the organized medical staff. Collaborate with other Medical Staff Offices and the Shared Services Centralized Credentialing Office (internal CVO) to create and implement efficient, effective policies and criteria governing credentialing and medical staff operations. Manage high risk, high profile medical staff processes, such as formal investigations and corrective actions. Promote consistency and collaboration among medical staffs in privileging systems, governing document maintenance and the use of the physician database.

  • Serves as an essential link between senior management and the Medical Staff to promote and enhance good communication and a positive working relationship.

  • Prepares ongoing reports and monitoring reappointment cycle to ensure compliance with Joint Commission recredentialing cycle requirements.

  • Complete the credentialing process after receipt from the internal CVO.

  • Assist with the badge process and the ConnectCare process.

  • Assist with the Residents, Students, and Fellows process, if applicable.

  • Assist the Director Medical Staff Services in the creation and development of policies and procedures and implementation of policy changes for the Medical Staff internal operation.

  • Provide list of physicians or mailing labels for other departments as needed.

  • Entity review if application does not meet minimum requirements for hospital affiliation.

  • Working with the Credentials Chair, CMO, or designee on drafting a letter for applicants that do not meet minimum credentialing criteria.

  • May be called upon to assist internal CVO in emergencies (staff shortage, FMLA, urgent start up groups, etc.)

Licensing/Certification

  • CPMSM and/or CPCS certification by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) required, or obtained within two years of hire or eligibility as determined by NAMSS.

Education

  • Associate degree with Bachelor degree preferred. Will consider candidates with experience in medical staff services/credentialing or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialists (CPCS) in lieu of degree.

Work Experience

Must have at least three years previous medical staff services/credentialing experience

Job Summary:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including, but not limited to preparing pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, and financial transactions, providing customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. The Certified Pharmacy Technician works as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team, and under the direction of the Pharmacist.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

  • Will treat orthopedic and sports medicine patients with general acute and chronic pain and dysfunction, as well as post-operative patients of all age ranges (but not pediatrics).

  • St. Francis Therapy Center offers comprehensive services for outpatients following an injury, before and/or after surgery, or because of a medical condition.

  • The Physical Therapist is a registered/licensed professional who performs evaluations and directs/administers plans of care in physical therapy. He/she will deliver services consistent with Rehabilitation Services policies and procedures.

Employment Qualifications

Education : Must be a graduate of an accredited program. Successful completion of appropriate Connect Care training modules for position/location.

Licensure, Registration, or Certification: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in state of South Carolina. Rehabilitation Services encourages participation in advanced clinical practice.

Essential Job Functions Demonstrates basic knowledge of diagnoses seen in Physical Therapy. Performs accurate evaluations, tests, and measurements. Documentation should reflect the need for skilled intervention and continued need for therapeutic services. Identifies short and long-term goals, rehabilitation potential, and estimates necessary length of intervention. Selects appropriate therapeutic procedures and treatment diagnosis that supports medical necessity therefore maximizing patient outcomes. Consults with patients, families, and inter-disciplinary team to design the plan of care and goals. Demonstrates basic skill level in the delivery of Physical Therapy procedures. Reassesses patient status on an ongoing basis and revises goals and treatment plans as indicated. Participates in discharge planning. Teaches and communicates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team to achieve Physical Therapy goals. Documents all aspects of assessment planning and treatment in the medical record in a timely and quality manner. Ensures adequacy of physician's orders and appropriateness of diagnosis. Completes patient charges in a timely/accurate manner. Understands CPT codes and regulations associated with them to include - the 8 minute rule; non-timed procedures; appropriate use of group codes; functional limitation reporting; and modifiers. Adheres to Bon Secours St. Francis Health rules, regulations and policies. Assists in monitoring quality improvement, infection control and safety standards. Notifies Director of problems with current hospital processes and helps to develop and implement corrective action to ensure departmental effectiveness. Provides supervision of professional staff and support personnel as outlined in organizational chart. Provides orientation of new personnel, students and/or volunteers. Facilitates staff development/competency programs and participates in the staff retention and recruitment activities. Participate in inter and intra-departmental in-service training. Participates in task forces as directed by Director. Alerts Director of problems identified with departmental processes and assists in rectifying problems and creating new processes as indicated. Attends meetings as requested by Director. Attends staff meetings/huddles for the purpose of revising policy, discussing problems, continuing education, etc. Participates in task forces or other hospital-wide committees as requested by Director. Acts as a liaison between other departments, medical staff, etc. Prepares, presents and participates in educational programs as assigned by the Director. Assists in marketing and program development activities for Rehab Services. Adheres to Bon Secours St. Francis Rehab professional behavior policy. Abides by standard of practice and code of ethics for licensure of the state in which he/she practices. Maintains professional development by participating in literature review, current trends, professional affiliations, conferences and lectures, etc. Provides excellent customer service for internal and external customers.
