The Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing tasks to support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions within Essentia Health Laboratories. The MLA will promote patient safety while performing specimen collection and processing. This position will also perform waived lab testing following standards of accreditation agencies and state licensure requirements.

Education Qualifications:

Wage Range: $19.03 - $28.23

Key Responsibilities:

• Collects specimens through venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other miscellaneous specimens (Urine, swabs, etc.)

• Performs specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing

• Performs laboratory testing, when applicable, per accreditation and licensure requirements

• Participates in training of new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate

• Follows Essentia Health rules and policies while handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality

Educational Requirements:

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program

OR

• Completes an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification

• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience

• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators' license

This position will schedule for Palliative Care and Elder CareThis position pre-registers and schedules patients for appointments, procedures, tests, and other services in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. Answers incoming calls, completes follow-up and referral work queues, and ticket scheduling. Communicates with patient care teams as necessary to ensure efficient, appropriate care for patients. Completes patient checkout, schedules follow-up appointments per the physician's order, and provides patients with cost estimates and itineraries for upcoming appointments. Level I Patient Schedulers are expected to be proficient in scheduling multiple service lines within the same market and one service line across Essentia Health and will be cross trained to provide coverage as needed.

This position is responsible for resolving a high volume of accounts for services provided by Essentia Health in a virtual call center environment. Representative acts as the primary contact or liaison for patients to discuss outstanding self-pay balances, billing and insurance questions, and is expected to provide timely resolution for all types of inquiries. Provides efficient and accurate support for insurance, coding, registration, financial assistance and other billing related issues to help resolve patient financial responsibility. In addition, this position performs account analysis to evaluate, develop and implement an action plan to educate guarantors and help resolve their financial responsibilities. This could include conducting follow-up on delinquent accounts, collection of self-pay balances, payment negotiation, and assisting patients with programs to help with their medical bills. Position may also handle incoming patient mail with potential for producing written correspondence in response to these inquiries. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a customer service orientation which consistently aims at exceeding patient expectations and contributes positively to a greater working environment. This position requires exceptional customer service skills including de-escalation, payment negotiation, and patient education. Receives, stores, issues and delivers materials and equipment to all areas of Essentia Health in support of patient care and consistent with the goals and missions of Essentia Health. Performs cleaning duties to conform to regulatory guidelines. Other responsibilities may include recording receipt of items, keeping open purchase order file up-to-date, filing receiving documents from carriers, staging items for/and delivery to hospital departments, uncrating, and minor assembly of products received. Regular use of material handling equipment.Maximum lifting requirement of 50 lbs.
