Position summary: Responsible for delivering all project objectives for assigned projects including; scope, schedule and budget.

Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Develop drainage design and stormwater management design in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.

  • Responsible for stormwater management, erosion and sedimentation control / NPDES permitting on transportation and other development projects

  • Conduct watershed studies and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis

  • Prepare Contract Documents including Plans, Specifications and Cost Estimates

  • Design and inspect traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and SWM BMPs in both urban and rural environments

  • Coordination with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and JMT staff from multiple locations and technical disciplines

  • Monitors schedules, budgets, accounts receivable and manpower requirements and prepares invoices.

  • Establish project pricing and budgets

  • Create and maintain project schedules

  • Develop and coordinate project scope

  • Manage subconsultants

  • Oversee and manage assigned staff working on project

  • Coordinate and assist Section Heads, Office Managers, and Practice Leaders with marketing proposals

Required Skills

  • Knowledge and design experience in storm drainage design, wetland and waters of the US impacts, stream restoration/stabilization for TMDL credits and compensation, stormwater management, MS4 permit compliance, and erosion and sediment control projects dealing with VDOT, VADEQ and USACE

  • Detailed understanding of Microstation/Open Roads Designer, Civil 3D, GEOPAK/SUDA, Arc GIS, HEC-RAS, PC or XP-SWMM and proficiency in MS Word and Excel required

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, working on multiple projects

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of local TMDL action plans and MS4 permit compliance

  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction stormwater management and permitting regulations preferred

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • Professional Engineer License

  • 10+ years' experience in water resources

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

Working Conditions

JMT's Richmond, VA Office is growing and seeks a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities across a variety of bridge and transportation structure projects at the local, state, and federal level. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing bridge and transportation structure projects of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO, VDOT, and client specifications; preparing and checking plans prepared by others for conformance with specifications and standards; designing and detailing structural components; preparing construction cost estimates and specifications; and reviewing shop drawings. In addition, the successful candidate will perform existing condition assessments and inspections of bridge and transportation structures in support of developing reports and repair and rehabilitation recommendations.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of structural design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete for both superstructure and substructure components.

Job Description

Vaughn & Melton's (a JMT Company) Survey department offers an exciting work environment that leverages modern technology (terrestrial/mobile/aerial LiDAR, Drones, robotics, bathymetry, etc.) balanced with sound traditional survey procedures to deliver projects. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Position summary: Responsible for the overall completion of the data processing phase of specific field survey projects.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs topographic plotting, terrain modeling, plat preparation, note reduction and design file generation

  • Perform office survey activities in accordance with Minimum Standards of Practice for Surveying

  • Operate and supervise the use of all survey equipment including electronic data collectors, levels, electronic total station, GPS and survey vehicles.

  • Performs office computations necessary for the completion of task assignments including QA/QC.

  • Tracks job progress

  • Completes data collector maintenance

  • Coordinates information for stakeout services

  • Analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy

  • Prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records and other survey reports

  • Communicates the daily progress of the crew towards the project goals and/or accomplishments with the office staff

Position summary: Manages and prepares documentation under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). Manages, directs, and oversees work of NEPA Specialists or Environmental Scientists.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages the preparation of NEPA documents including Categorical Exclusions (CE), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) including for non-transportation projects

  • Supports and leads preparation of natural environmental technical reports

  • Recommends data sources and directs research and data collection of designated environmental resources including wetlands and waterways, forests, soils, plants, air, noise, socioeconomic, land use, wildlife, etc. in support of the preparation of NEPA studies

  • Reviews, interprets, and integrates various technical studies into NEPA documentation

  • Oversees and manages preparation of administrative records for NEPA documents as required and in accordance with the Administrative Procedures Act

  • Prepares NEPA schedules, milestones, and workload projections/staffing needs in accordance with client requirements and meets deadlines

  • Manages and develops public involvement strategies and materials, and manages and leads stakeholder engagement activities

  • Assists with or manages consultation requirements common to the NEPA process (e.g., Section 7 & 10 of the Endangered Species Act, or Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act)

  • Oversees NEPA Specialists, Planners, and Environmental Scientists' work in NEPA documentation preparation and other assigned duties

  • Monitors schedules, budgets and manpower requirements

  • Hires, trains, develops, mentors, and conducts performance reviews for staff

  • Leads preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP's, including teaming arrangements and attending and presenting at project/contract interviews

  • Expertise with NEPA regulations and requirements including, at minimum, 40 CFR 1500-1508

Preferred Experience

  • Master's degree in natural resource management, environmental or natural science, planning, or a related field, or a law degree

  • Professional certification or license such as American Institute of Certified Planners, Certified Environmental Professional, or Project Management Professional

The successful candidates will inspect transportation structures and roadway construction projects using engineering skills to determine structural soundness and compliance with specification, codes, and other regulations. Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area such as bridges or paving. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing surveying and mapping duties, usually under the direction of an engineer, surveyor, cartographer, or photogrammetrist to obtain data used for construction, map making, boundary location, mining, or other purposes. They may calculate map making information and create maps from source data, such as surveying notes, aerial photography, satellite data, or other maps to show topographical features, political boundaries, and other features. They also may verify accuracy and completeness of topographical maps. This position works closely with project engineers creating plans for the construction of various types of transportation and civil/site projects including, but not limited to, the following: roadways, bridges, parks, commercial and private developments. The position will also be required to work closely with land survey crews in the preparation of topographic and boundary surveys as well as construction stake-out and as-built surveys.   • Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features

Vaughn & Melton, a JMT company, is currently seeking Surveying Technician I - Rodman/Instrument Operators for their New Bern, Sylva and Asheville, North Carolina Offices. The successful candidate for this position will adjust and operate surveying instruments, such as the theodolite and electronic distance-measuring equipment, and compiles notes, make sketches and enter data into computers. They will also assist the survey team by gathering and maintaining specified data for land surveying. Finally, they will complete simple routine tasks under close supervision. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used.

  • Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting in-order-to measure angles, distances, and elevations.

  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.

  • Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations.

  • Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.

  • Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations

  • Ability to act in an Owner's Agent/Responsible in Charge role

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
