As an Integration Engineer, you will direct and participate in the design and development of complex, major engineering product or process projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. The Integration Engineer role is within the growing space of Marine Hybrid Propulsion systems. Incumbent will be responsible for developing and integrating control systems for a variety of marine products, including hybrid and full battery architectures.

Job Duties:

  • Creation of technical specifications, integration & interactions documentation for various design controls for L5 & L6 systems.

  • Identifies product opportunities and technology enhancements expanding value for the customer.

  • Test plan development and system/software validation activities.

  • Collaborate with various product group teams as well as external partners to ensure program requirements are understood, delivered on time, and within budget.

  • Design, analysis and integration of electrical/mechanical power production, conversion, and management systems, (and any combination thereof) and their associated controls

  • Provide on-site technical sales and integration support of highly integrated turnkey hybrid/electrified power systems and/or constituent system components into target marine markets

  • Development and management of comprehensive application and interface data for proposed hybrid/electrified systems and constituent system components

  • Protect Caterpillar's intellectual property.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 13-15 years of engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Relevant experience in multiple machine system design and/or development associated with the product along with excellent analytical skills and an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications.

  • 5+ years' experience with integration of electrical / electronic control systems for engines, transmissions, hybrid electric systems, telematics, and/or user interface systems

  • 5+ years' Experience in developing machine control requirements and specifications

  • 5+ years' Experience with CAN, J1939, Modbus and other data link communications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with strong communication skills

  • Experience with FMEA processes and applied failure analysis.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills who can communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.

  • Enjoy being hands on while demonstrating high level controls engineering skills across multiple disciplines.

  • Experience with classical control and modern control theory

  • Integration experience with bi-directional inverters, motors, gensets, and energy storage within Marine or similar Energy and Transportation industries.

  • The ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions.

  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Simulation and Validation tools and processes.

  • Strong communication skills - Oral and written complemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations internally and externally to aid technical sales to customers.

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL or Houston, TX or Lafayette, IN

  • Up to 25% Travel.
