Job Summary:

At Caterpillar's South Milwaukee, WI facility, we manufacture electric rope shovels for mining operations. In this role as a Manufacturing Engineer, you will report to the Group Manager and will be primarily responsible for working both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in manufacturing. In addition, Manufacturing Engineers function as a specialist and subject matter expert for technical planning throughout the manufacturing facility. As a member of the Manufacturing team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:

  • Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs

  • Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions

  • Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans

  • Analyze, provide specifications, and acquire new or replacement equipment

  • Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, equipment replacement and continuous process improvement

  • Improve Value Stream metrics by defining and implementing process improvement activities

  • Identify Root Causes and implement Corrective Actions to address Safety, Quality, Velocity, and Cost opportunities identified through projects, CI Cards, or CPI/BIQ issues

  • Improve space utilization in manufacturing and office spaces

  • Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes

What you will have:

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university

  • 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience

  • 2+ years of welding experience

  • In lieu of a degree, 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment with experience creating visual aids standard work and routings

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing-related discipline

  • 3 years of experience working on a Manufacturing Engineering team

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts

  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Experience working in SAP

  • 2+ years of capital project experience

  • Experience working with Electric Rope Shovel components

The primary location for this position is S. Milwaukee, WI
