Software Architect

Serco will provide technical support to its customer, a defense acquisition program management office which is responsible for the development, acquisition, production, fielding, and lifetime support of critical surface ship systems. This senior-level position has aspects of defense acquisition management, contract management, financial management, and other related acquisition skills.
In this role you will:
Participate in SE meetings including Configuration Control Boards, Technical Review Boards, Software Control Boards, Radar Design Integration Working Group, Mission Readiness Assessment, and Combat System-Integration design reviews.
Alert and advise program leadership and stakeholders on technical issues, and track issues to resolution.
Support derivation to software requirements; review and accept designs.
Evaluate system requirements for feasibility with respect to the system's software architecture, software deployment phasing, and allocated budgets.
Support recommendations for technical options and provide specific technical guidance on design and implementation to meet project constraints.
Oversee development & updates to current and new software baselines. Ensure that allocated requirements are complete, implemented and tested as part of release schedule. Review teams' assessments for requirements shortfall and watch items, and support tracking of issues to either modify system requirements or re-phase.
Review and accept production and sustainment build promotions and associated testing as part of ship installation and fleet deployment.
Review the System open investigation reports, defect backlogs, product backlogs, and test backlogs and provide input to system assessments of readiness.
Participate in the program's Risk Management process and provides information on program risks, mitigation strategies, and risk burn-down progress.
Manage, track, and regularly report on the status of associated Navy software platforms and licenses.
Manage the recurring management baseline reports and track progress of key watch items andperformance parameters.
Be well-versed in the defense acquisition process and areas relating to acquisition policy and best practices including acquisition streamlining and be able to apply that knowledge and experience in executing actual programs.
Be knowledgeable in new acquisition practices such as rapid acquisition, DEV/SEC/OPS, use of collaboration tools, and data analytics in support of the program office.
Manage schedules and plans of action related to system acquisition. Support may include program and milestone reviews, budget management, coordination with higher-level acquisition and sponsor organizations under program office leadership, and coordination with Fleet support organizations on behalf of the program office.
Support program office tasking related to acquiring complex Naval systems. Work will require coordinating and collaboration with staff from the program office, other contractors, system developer/manufacturer, and government field activities or labs.
Assist in program office management of projects, tracking progress against schedules, managing acquisition tasking and funding of supporting organizations, driving, and coordinating accomplishment of actions, coordinating the development of proposed solutions to issues, managing risk, supporting meetings, and providing critical analysis of acquisition processes and progress on behalf of the government program management office.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Agile software development experience.
Engineering experience involving shipborne and US Navy (USN) systems.
Eight to ten years' experience, preferably with a combined minimum of 15 years work experience in engineering and software development.
Knowledge of defense acquisition principles and practices.
A Bachelor's degree, however, a Master's of Science degree or higher preferred, in an Engineering discipline.
Advanced internal team communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
A current or active DoD Secret security clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance via sponsorship.
Additional desired experience and skills:
Work experience may be adjusted based on an advanced degree. Degree requirements may be adjusted based on additional related experience, highly specialized knowledge, or uniquely applicable experience.
Previous government program office experience desired. Experience in ship systems, sensors, combat systems, or C4I systems desired.
